Title: "Saban updates QBs, Duron, injuries, everything under the sun"

It was a particularly long noon news conference today with Alabama coach Nick Saban. Here are a few of the highlights from the affair:

    1. Regardless of playing time at Penn State, the quarterbacks are still 1A and 1B, Saban said.
    2. AJ McCarron managed the game well and made the right decisions on all but one pass. It’s hard to evaluate Phillip Sims because he didn’t throw once.
    3. For the situation that game presented, McCarron did exactly what he’s supposed to do.
    4. On to Duron Carter. There was still a chance he could have flown in Saturday morning if the paperwork cleared in time. It didn’t so he stayed in Tuscaloosa.
    5. Saban doesn’t like players using Twitter to reveal important details about the team. That’s the medium Carter used to announce he wasn’t playing at Penn State. Staff members actually monitor the Twitter feeds of players to avoid trouble....

I can't believe this crap with Duron's grades.  Academic admin madness.  At some point it would seem someone should incur legal liability for negligence.

I have 2 thoughts on this:

1)  He didn't actually do the work, in which case the professor should stand his ground.  He is actually doing us a favor here, since we would ultimately have to vacate any games he plays in if it is later determined that he is not eligible.  In this case, the professor should be commended for doing the right thing in a very difficult situation.  You are not helping Duron if you let him get away with something like that.

2)  Duron did the work and the professor is expecting a booster to come along and apply a little grease to the situation to make things go smoother.  If that is the case, he needs to be sued to hell and back, have his reputation ruined, and never be allowed to work in the teaching profession again.

Most likely it is somewhere in between.  It would be very interesting to know what is really going on.

I'm wondering if the professor is questioning if the work turned in was actually done by Carter.

I have no idea.  But by now I think it is safe to say that it is not just an administrative/logistical problem with some paperwork.  Nobody has that much FAIL.

My reaction to Saban's statements:

I will believe this when I see it and not just for one series.

[■Looking a head to the next opponent Saban referred to as               “North Texas State,” Alabama will see a solid running attack that likes to spread things out/color]

This is so disingenuous and just not a believable statement. I wonder about Saban sometimes.
