Title: Missouri To SEC
Post by: pmull on September 07, 2011, 02:45:28 PM
Missouri fans are making a push to get the SEC's attention. I like the look of their Divison Alignment map with Missouri in the East.

Are we fired up about this? You better believe it!

They don't have a clue about what they would be in for playing an SEC team 8 or 9 times a year. Well, at least Ole Miss, Kentucky, and Miss. State would have someone they might be able to beat consistently.

If they are all like that they might smack around the Ole Misses and Vandy's of the conference.  :D

Well I thought maybe Baylor but now them do the trouble making they will never get in the SEC. I never dreamed of Mizz though. It might make for a fine line of play but as MD said earlier they don't know what it is like playing in the SEC. Well I am glad the fans want to come in but I can't see it happening. RTR!

If Missouri was offered a chance it wouldn't bother me, I said this in an earlier thread and I think they will have a chance. It's an easy trip up there and I think they are a good caliber team as well. They won't be playing for a football championship every year but they will be there occasionally.

Basketball is another story, they will bring a lot to the table and the SEC will only be stronger.

At first I thought the geography would be against them, but after seeing their conference map I think it could work.  We might need to rename the divisions though since they aren't really east and west any more.  Maybe we have the Bryant Division and the Neyland Division.

Why don't we name one division Bryant and the other Denny, I'm sure the other schools wouldn't mind.  8)

Their best bowl win was 2007 Cotton Bowl. They beat the crap out of Arkansas 38-7. They only won two Big 12 North titles and Nebraska was down many of those years.

Look at Missouri, standing on a street corner soliciting whatever conference, other than the Big12, is willing to pay them.  Kinda embarassing if you ask me.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but I would think the SEC may want to go East if they add a 14th team. That is if the Texas A&M deal goes through. VT is the most attractive I think right now. But, I think Florida State, Georgia Tech, or Clemson would make the most sense. When does anything have to be about making sense anymore though. That way we keep the East/West Divisions. If Missouri came in, one team from the West may have to move to the East. Auburn seems the likely candidate there, but what would that do to the Iron Bowl? I like they way they do it by State now, having both schools in the State either in the East/West. Things could change, they could have a North/South Division maybe. Anyway, just some thoughts. Roll Tide!

Correct. Also, from Missouri are Ma Barker, the Dalton Gang, Belle Starr, the Younger Brothers, & Bloody Bill Anderson (Confederate guerilla).

Yep. Sept. 8, 1975. Whether or not it was their biggest win is debateable, but there is no other clear cut bigger victory that I could find. They are Ole Miss without the Johnny Vought era.

Actually, they had two huge game wins against the Tide. In the 1968 Gator Bowl. an 8-2 Tide team got blown out by a 7-3 Missouri team 35-10. At the time, it was the biggest loss point-wise Coach Bryant had ever suffered. The Tide had a poor offense which average 17 points a game and gave up 10 a game. The D was good, but Missouri was just too big and fast and ran away with the game. I watched it on TV as a young teenager.

In 1975, the Tide was ranked #2 (?) in the nation at the start of the year. Their first game was against Missouri. Missouri had a 240# RB named Tony Galbraith who Alabama could not stop, slow down, or tackle. He was incredible and Missouri won 20-7 and it was never close. The Tide then won their next 11 games to go 11-1 for the season. They beat Penn State in the Sugar Bowl to break a 7 game Tide losing streak in the bowls.

Missouri tied it up at 16, then fell behind 30-16.  Then fought back to tie it up at 30.  They had a chance to win with a long field goal at the end in the rain, but missed.  Now they are going to overtime.
