A generic Republican candidate earns the highest level of support to date against President Obama in a hypothetical 2012 election match-up for the week ending Sunday, September 4. 

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely U.S. Voters finds the generic Republican earning 49% support, while the president picks up 41% of the vote.  Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.
