Title: MLB Season 2016
Post by: Marshal Dillon on April 01, 2016, 08:18:27 AM
Regular season starts Sunday April 3rd with Pirates & Cardinals. Braves look atrocious in Spring Training with 6-20 record. The genius Jim Hart (GM) has a secret plan to make the Braves great by 2017.

I hope the Orioles have a great year this year. I always pull for the Braves ever since they came to Atlanta but I think it's gonna be another one of those years. I remember when the Braves won so many in a row people were going just to be there when they lost their first one. They still couldn't win anything at the end of that year. RTR!

Strange, building for the future with older veterans?

 ???

Quote
The Braves outfield will be completed by the veteran trio of Nick Markakis, Drew Stubbs and Jeff Francoeur.

Jeff Francoeur has secured a spot on the Braves opening day roster. (AP) Yes, that Jeff Francoeur.

Though considered a rebuilding team, the Braves have several veterans in the Francoeur mold on their roster. Guys like Kelly Johnson, Jim Johnson and A.J. Pierzynski, who are there today but could be gone tomorrow if another team shows interest

Braves have stockpiled lots of prospects but it is going to take sometime to see just how good they turn out to be.

The Braves have stockpiled everything except front office people who know Baseball. RTR!

The Braves had a good team BEFORE they traded everyone away last year. They needed maybe 2 more solid players but chose to destroy a competitive team. For what, a bunch of prospects who might work out. In 2013 Braves won 96 games. In 2014 the Braves lost 5 pitchers to injury & won 79 games. It was amazing. Now, while "rebuilding" we went 67-95 in 2015 but are told just wait till 2017. I think most of these moves were made for one reason only, to save money.

O's will be able to mash the ball with the best, but we have got to get some better pitching this year. We can't hope to make it by beating everyone 9-7 every night.

#+, I think Bucky will find a way during part of the year to get the pitching he needs. He is still one of the best mgrs. today there is I think. RTR!

Boston opens up at Cleveland this afternoon. David Price, acquired during the offseason, will get the start today.

I do not know what to expect out of the BoSox this year.  :dunno:

I sure hope the first 3 games are a valid indicator of the type team the Dodgers will field this year.  Unfortunately, I'm guessing it's just that the Padres suck.

Yeah, the Dodgers have collectively outscored the Padres in the 3 games played, 25-0. If they keep this pace, they will be the best team in the history of sports.  :lol2:

Boston is 2-1 with 2 games of the young season being postponed due to rain and cold weather. They went 1-1 at Cleveland and beat Toronto on the road last night in Game 1 of that series. Their first home game will be Monday against the Orioles. David Price, who got the start and win in the Sox opener, will get the home opener start as well. Baltimore is off to a great start at 4-0.

I continue to be impressed by the sheer brilliance of Braves GM Jim Hart. He is suckering the entire NL into thinking the Braves are lousy & will lose 90-100 games this year. They have started the season at 0-7 with a blistering .203 batting average & 22 runs scored in 7 games with 3 home runs. Now, he can unleash the Braves mighty hitting attack & start winning after catching the NL by surprise.

This not the only example of Jim Hart's genius, here's another example:

Quote
The Braves’ season, which has jumped the rails even sooner and more dramatically than most could have envisioned, took an ugly, real-life turn Wednesday when left fielder Hector Olivera was arrested on domestic violence charges at the team hotel in Arlington, Va. (just outside of Washington D.C., where the team is for a series against the Nationals). Olivera appeared in court later in the day and was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.

Quote
It may be a while before we learn details of the reported incident and of Olivera’s guilt or innocence. That said, this is the last thing the Braves needed in a season when their on-field product is an embarrassment and the only thing they have going for them is the feel-good storyline of rebuilding with young, hard-working players and doing things the right way.

Olivera isn’t young (31), but he’s relatively new. Braves executives John Hart and John Coppolella took a significant risk when they acquired the high-priced, former Cuban defector from the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-team trade last July, sending away a package of players that included starting lefthander Alex Wood and touted prospect Jose Peraza. The Dodgers paid Olivera a $28 million signing bonus but the Braves remain responsible for his salaries from 2016 to 2020 ($32.5 million).

FWIW, Hart is not the GM of the Braves. John Coppolella is. Hart is still apparently pulling strings in a different capacity with the Braves, but Coppolella has been the GM since October.

True, but Hart is the one calling the shots. They both get fired in 2018 if things don't improve drastically. Right now, I don't see big things by 2018.

 :dunno:

Quote
Along with providing guidance, Hart was the authoritative figure who provided final approval of those trades and harnessed the actions of the tireless and aggressive Coppolella, who has been a part of Atlanta's front office since leaving the Yankees at the conclusion of the 2006 season.
