Title: Vandy Coach, Kevin Stallings, Headed To Pitt
Post by: pmull on March 27, 2016, 04:13:56 PM
Long time (17 years) Vandy Coach is replacing Jamie Dixon as head coach at Pitt. Dixon is the new head coach at TCU. I am somewhat surprised by this move.

Quote
Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings, whose job security was in question with the Commodores, has been hired to replace Jamie Dixon at Pittsburgh, the school announced Sunday.

Sources said it is a six-year deal.

"I am extremely excited to join the University of Pittsburgh family," Stallings said in a release. "Pitt has a tremendous basketball tradition and I am looking forward to building on the excellent foundation that is in place on the court and in the classroom. The city of Pittsburgh is outstanding and I have a great deal of respect for the people that make it such a special place. I look forward to seeing their support along with that of the Oakland Zoo next season at the Petersen Events Center."

Stallings, 55, had been the head coach at Vandy for 17 seasons and made the NCAA tournament seven times.

I've got a feeling that his seat was a little warmer than most of us knew. He's a good coach and I think will be good for Pitt. It will be interesting to see who Vandy gets to replace him.

I think Stallings needed a change and was feeling major heat at Vandy. Now, he can readjust and refresh with a new team for another 4 years of coaching. I think he might do good, but now he plays UNC, Duke, Syracuse, Ga. Tech, Notre Dame, Miami, Louisville & others in the ACC. No more Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama, So. Carolina, LSU, Miss. State, or other SEC teams.

Pitt is a stopping off point for coaches in both football and basketball. They should be happy with this hire.

Jamie Dixon was at Pitt from 2003-2016. He took them to 11 NCAA Tournaments including 5 Sweet 16 and one Elite 8. Pitt is a very good basketball school. They are always competitive first in the Big east and now in the ACC. Stallings is a big down grade from Dixon.

Once Dixon left, they became a stopping off point, just like football.

Bizarre move from Pitt BB to TCU BB but then I found out he is an alum of TCU. What took him so long to move?

I think Dixon is an excellent coach. His Pitt teams were big, physical and won a lot of games. I thought it was strange he would leave Pitt for TCU as well but like you said he is an alum. TCU also just completed a $72 Million dollar renovation to the basketball facility. They are making basketball a priority since joining the Big 12 and wanted a good coach and I think they got him.

Yep, going from ACC to Big 12 has to help in the win column. He basically has to worry about Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, W Va, & maybe Baylor. Interesting development.
