Title: Verizon Phones
Post by: pmull on March 11, 2011, 08:05:22 AM
Any Verizon users out there?

It is time for me to get a new work phone phone. I need one for talk and text. No data plan. Any recommendations on which Verizon phone would be best? I am looking at the LG Cosmos touch and Pantech Crux.

Help, I don't know what I am doing.

I've had an LG Cosmos touch for about 3 months.   My first experience with a touch phone.  It's taking some time to get use to it.  The sales person at Verizon told me that with touch phones you either love it or you hate it.  I'll admit that I am not very tech savy, but if I had it to do over again I probably would not get the touch model.  All I use it for is talking and texting.

Thanks Leewillie.

That is good information. My 17 and 21 old daughters think I need a touch phone and I had my concerns. I think I may go with a more simple phone.

Verizon has the LG Cosmos in a regular (not touch) model.  That's what I should have gotten.

Do you like the keyboard on your phone? The phone I have now I text using the number pad with the T9 function and that works good for me.

Yes, I do like the keyboard, but the "non touch" Cosmos also has a slide out keyboard.  Texting is much easier with the keyboard.

I thought the keyboard would be nice.

Thanks again.

We've been with Verizon for years.  In this part of the state it is the only reliable provider.  I have had an LG  ENV Touch for almost two years.  I only use a phone for talking and texting so this is the perfect phone for me.  It flips open and has a keypad, which I love!  It's easy to use the keypad and the touch screen works pretty well.  Not sure what the new version is but we have had good luck with LG phones.

I just upgraded from the LG ENVTouch to an iphone.  I really liked having the option of using the touch screen or opening the phone and using the keypad with the ENV.

The phone can also be used with the data plan if you need it later.  The reason I went to the iphone was for the ability to read books -- you can read documents on the ENV but it was WAAAAYYYYY to small for me to do so comfortably.

Bob said that the push to talk phones are kind of expensive and that the push to talk feature is just for talking to other Verizon folks that have push to talk phones.

Bob said that for talk and text only, the LG Cosmos or the LG Octane would be your best choice. Both are popular for talk/texting. He did not recommend the Crux.

Hope this helps.

Yes Ricky they do. I mentioned it up about 4 posts. He said they are more expensive phones and that if you wanted to use the push to talk it only worked when talking to another Verizon customer with a push to talk phone.

pmull,

Did you get your new phone today?

Not yet, too much going on yesterday with Tide sports, yard work and washing my wife's car. I will either do it this afternoon or after work on Monday. You and Terrie have me leaning to the LG Cosmos (non-touch). My daughter's friend came over last night and she had one. I think I will like it.

Did anyone go out yesterday and buy the new phone - Thunderbolt?  It launched yesterday. I want one but I'm going to wait a bit. I have a Droid now that i HATE. It's the worst phone I've owned. I think I just got a lemon or something. So I'm looking at the Thunderbolt (4 G) or the Verizon IPhone... just can't decide

I have the Verizon IPhone and I love it.  I wanted the IPhone since they first came out to be able to use iBooks.  I don't download a lot of apps, but everything I've thought "hey that would be useful" has been easy to find and free.

The one complaint I have is that you can't use personalized tones for text messages.

If you do go with an IPhone, check out otterbox.com for a case.  They have been recommended to me by several people.  Otterbox will replace your phone if it's broken in their case.

Thanks MDB.  I am leaning towards the Verizon IPhone.  Probably within the next couple of months. Going to wait a bit and see if they run a special :)  The Thunderbolt is apparently "Awesome". I haven't seen or used one so I don't really know. I just know that it is Verizon's first 4G phone.

Coach - do you have the Droid? If so, do you have a problem with the microphone and speaker?  Or accidentally disconnecting a call if you try to multitask and hold the phone with your shoulder/chin?  They've replaced mine once already. Sometimes when I talk into the phone it is muffled like i'm covering the phone or something.  Just weird stuff. Those are some of the reasons I'm not crazy about my Droid.

My wife has a Droid and she had that problem.  She got hers in December, and it was't long after she got it when the trouble started.  It was still under warranty and she took it back.  They replaced it with a refurbished one, which I wasn't too happy about.  No older than it was they should have given her another new one.  I think she said she was having problems again the other day with the replacement.

Coach - my husband said that the policy is now a 14 day return policy. It just changed in February from the 31 day return policy.
I think it's just the Droid. I'm trying to hold on on buying a new phone until after our trip next month.
