When Alabama faces the Tigers in the national championship game Monday night, Jake Coker, Calvin Ridley, ArDarius Stewart and the rest of the Tide passing game will be matched up against one of the top-ranked pass defenses in the country.

Alexander and 6-foot-5, 220-pound Jayron Kearse are both All-Americans and potential first round picks in next year's NFL draft. CBS Sports ranks Alexander, a redshirt sophomore, as the second-best cornerback and 10th-best overall NFL prospect among draft-eligible. CBS projects Kearse, a junior, will be a first or second round pick if he decides to turn pro.

Led by those two, Clemson enters Monday ranked ninth nationally in pass defense...

Lots of specifics about 'how Clemson's DBs will play Alabama', and how they've been successful this year.  Worthy article.

The comparison between Clemson's pass defense and ours is really interesting.  They are ranked #9 while ours is #18.  They have had 412 pass attempts to our 448 and given up 196 completions to our 220.  That shows that teams have not respected our pass defense as much to me.  We have given up about 123 more passing yard on those 24 completions that have gone against us...not bad IMO.  Now the interesting part...Clemson has given up 4 more TD's through the air than Bama this year, 17 to our 13 and have only intercepted the ball 16 times to our 18.  They don't seem to be all that much better than our defense if you ask me.

Comparisons between Clemson's pass defense and ours is hardly pertinent, except to get an idea of its strengths.  I think the most salient point is "Clemson's pass defense is very good, and they primarily play man defense".

That said, you can bet they hope to stack the line and challenge Coker to beat them.  Their pass defense is better than Michigan State's by far, so it's prolly their best strategy.  Best news is they've given up big plays all year, despite being a worthy pass defense.

And all their opponents were mostly ACC. Ours SEC. Makes a big difference IMO.

2 and I posted at same time.  True, the SEC is better.  And here... (see above)

And that's a good point. I doubt they've encountered many as fast and talented as Ridley, or as athletic as Ardarius. Looks like OJ is emerging now, also. Man to man coverage on those guys? Good luck!
