Quote This latest development is wholly unexpected, but in any event according to Nick Saban, Danny Woodson, Jr. has joined the Alabama football team and will begin working out with the team immediately. This latest development comes after weeks of speculation and belief that Woodson would only enroll this fall if Duron Carter became an academic casualty, but obviously that turned out not to be the case with both Carter and Woodson currently in Tuscaloosa. Saban indicated that the staff will use the same routine currently being used to acclimate Carter to also bring Woodson up to speed. Clearly a scholarship came open somewhere, and no one has been dismissed from the program, so exactly where did the scholarship come from? In his post-practice press conference, Saban hinted that it came at the expense of a walk-on. Lowery is perhaps the only walk-on upperclassman who would legitimately be in line for a scholarship, outside of perhaps Carson Tinker, so if it did come at the expense of a walk-on then that player is likely Lowery. Woodson did not join the team when fall camp began on August 5 and had until Wednesday to beat the deadline to enroll. Saban said Woodson will be placed on a similar learning track as receiver Duron Carter, who just joined the team on Monday after being cleared academically. "Those guys will go through a program and a process a little bit like when a guy comes in late to camp in the NFL," Saban said. "Duron Carter practiced in shells two days, he'll practice in pads two days, same thing Danny Woodson will do. Woodson can not dress. You can not wear full pads until after 4 practices. CNS said yesterday that they will practice Carter hard this weekend and get him ready to play ASAP but it is unlikely he will play against KS. I'm hoping that Carter gets to dress and play. Even if he only gets in on a play or two, it'll help his psyche and he'll likely practice harder. It may be a few games before we have a chance for everyone to play otherwise.
