Title: Bama vs Oregon tonight @ 8:00 p.m. ESPNU
Post by: Jamos on December 21, 2015, 03:51:26 PM
While the game against Oregon is considered a home contest for the Tide, it will be played away from Coleman Coliseum. It will be the seventh time in 10 games this season Alabama has played a game away from Tuscaloosa, marking the first time since the 1978-79 season that has occurred (played nine of first 11 games on the road that year).

This is a big game for the Bama team tonight to not only extend their current win streak but there is a big time high school tournament going on in Birmingham this week and CAJ seems to be spending a lot of time there.

I'm sure there will be a lot of these players at the game tonight.

I would tend to say that CAJ has used the high school tournament perfectly for his recruiting purposes.  ;)

Mrs. J and I will be there tonight along with some of our friends. RTR!!!!

Well my new cable company that bought us out has not got our cable back on again. They are from Texas so I already sent the BBB a complaint, and they said they would act on it. RTR!

I'm jealous, J. Wish I could be there watching the game with y'all, but then that would mean that I would have to get behind the wheel again.  :snow:

Holler loud and proud!!!

Tough game. Oregon has 5 players who average double figures in scoring. They have a 6'10", 6'8", 6'7" players who give them size. Oregon averages 78 points a game.

Cecil tweeted that Oregon is 6.5 point favorite.  This would be another huge win if Bama can pull off the upset.

If Bama wins this one do we sneak into the top 25?

NOOOOO we won't get in the Top 25 just by beating Oregon. You have to remember we have to prove ourselves to the ESPN Network to get ranked. RTR!

I thought about this, too. I don't think so unless a lot of lower ranked teams lose at the same time. I think we have to win at least 2-3 more games to be ranked. Tide BB stock has been low for a lot of years.

Edwards hit a 3. He's a streak shooter which bodes well for Tide. 5-2 Tide.

Way too much fouling by Bama. At this rate, at least 3 players will foul out.

That was a disappointing loss, but Bama held their own against a very good team.  Oregon clearly has the better players right now.  With Hale in the game Bama might have been able to come out with the win.  I hope he's okay. The secrecy around whatever's going on with him is a little concerning.

Oregon played lights out in the second half. We got several points in the paint in the first half. They shut us down in the paint in the 2nd half. Oregon is a very athletic team, and quite honestly, a better team than Bama, presently. But Bama doesn't have anything to hang their head about. They never gave up, but the 2 missed 3's in a row did us in.

What has really emerged out of the last 2 games is the confidence of Justin Coleman. It's a shame that Ingram is out for the season, but I don't think we skip a beat, now that Coleman has found himself. I just wish we had Hale back, or at least knew a timetable as to when he is expected to return. We'll need him for SEC play. There is a very tight lid on his situation, and no info is being released.

I know when we was up by 12 at the half, and we lost something had to go really, really, wrong in the 2nd half. This seem to be the team of old, that could not perform in the 2nd half. We must get ready now, for the rest of the season will be playing the big dogs after the next game it seems. I do hope our 2nd half collapse doesn't become a thing normalcy again. We shall see. I will say this if we make a decent showing, and go deep into the SEC tourney this year we might, just might make the Big Dance this year. RTR!

In the first half, Oregon was pressing on defense, and Bama was able to get several shots near the basket.  That, plus three pointers, gave Bama the big lead going into the half.

In the second half, Oregon gave up on the pressure defense and allowed their bigger players to mostly shut down the inside shots.  Plus, their bigger guys were attacking the basket on offense.  I think Oregon had bigger, better players, but Bama had the better coaching and almost pulled out a win.

It was a good test for the youngsters and they didn't disappoint the crowd either. A win would have been great but somewhere in the schedule there will be some loses. It would be nice to see them go on another win streak as they did after their last loss.

The first ten minutes after the half was a killer for them. I wonder if the confusion of getting the second half started could have affected them in some way. I don't know what happened but it seemed that they mopped the court for at least 15 minutes or longer. It was long enough that they had the players doing some light exercises to loosen up again before they started. Maybe somebody can fill me in on what the heck happened with all of that.

By the way that wasn't the only thing that stopped play last night. twice they had to get the game management folks to make repairs on each of the goals and had to summon them twice on the last time before anyone showed up to fix the problem and they were wearing suits.

One other thing I noticed was there was no American flag in the arena when the lady sang the national anthem. Usually they can put one up on the big screen at mid court but not last night. There was also total chaos with the concessions as well, lots of po'd fans. I bet half of the concession stands were closed and there were over 14,500 fans there.

Quote
"When I look at where we are with the roster that we have, I'm awfully proud of them," Johnson said.

Quote
"We played award-winning defense in the first half against a good team, and we did the same thing during the first half [of a 64-45 loss to Xavier Nov. 26]," Johnson said.

Quote
"Because we don't have a 30-point consistent scorer — we have to do it as a team offensively — so that means we have to screen and everybody's got to know the play," Johnson said. "We drew up a play in the timeout. Four guys knew it, and one guy didn't. For us, we have to be all five guys on a string on the floor for us to be successful. We did a much better job of that in the first half, and not so much in the second half."

The Good

Even in a loss the program is improving and has momentum

The Bad

13-20 65% Free Throws (Missed several front ends of 1 &1)
Points in Paint: Ore 32 UA 22
Points off Turnovers: Ore 22 UA 7
We need more production from Kessens: 2 pts on 1-2 shooting

Excellent addition, especially the turnovers which I meant to have but forgot. We had 14 turnovers, OU had 9. Points off turnovers is shocking, I missed that. Their inside dominance scoring was prevalent in the 2nd half. 8 players scored but only 3 had double figures. Plus, Edwards was hot but he only took a few shots. We have to get the ball to our hot shooters in a game. I mentioned the attendance in an earlier post and it was the most encouraging thing from the game. Loud & enthusiastic crowd was so nice to see and hear.
