So I was told last night the reason the USC job opening  - that you’ve heard no names for – is that it is such a big name, and I know what the name is – it is such a big name, that that person has said “If I hear anything, I’m out.”

October 20: Rams HC Jeff Fisher denies interest in USC job, citing a commitment to St. Louis management.
October 19: Dan Patrick says USC would like it if Seahawks HC Pete Carroll returned. Carroll, however, shot that down to ESPN's Sheil Kapadia.
October 18: Saints HC Sean Payton is a USC target, NFL Network reports, and Eagles HC Chip Kelly could be too.
October 16: Ravens HC John Harbaugh says USC is "not a consideration."
October 15: Oklahoma State HC Mike Gundy says he has "no interest."
Harbaugh is "high on the short list," according to Dan Patrick.
October 14: The betting favorites are Utah HC Kyle Whittingham, Kelly and Boise State HC Bryan Harsin.
Of the five jobs already available, USC's is the best. That's probably not going to change, even if huge surprises happen elsewhere.
October 13: USC reportedly fired HC Steve Sarkisian "for cause," which means either a court battle or a just-plain awkward ending. Conquest Chronicles has Kelly and Whittingham atop its wish list.
October 12: Sarkisian fired. He's entering treatment. OC Clay Helton is the interim, again.
USC should swing for the fences, FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman and Stewart Mandel discuss. Notre Dame HC Brian Kelly? UCLA HC Jim Mora? Carroll return? Go for it! Whittingham and Houston HC Tom Herman are the less-prominent names here.
Former USC interim and current LSU DLC Ed Orgeron won't be on the list, ESPN reports.
The Los Angeles Daily News has five or six candidates, with Whittingham's name first.
October 11: Sarkisian placed on leave after allegedly being too sick and/or non-sober to work.
September 22: A HOT SEAT WATCH appearance for the 2-1 Sarkisian.
August 23: Sark apologizes for appearing drunk at a booster event. Haden says he expressed "disappointment."

Word is the big-money folks will mass to help pay his buyout before rushing to Miles’ defense, though talk traditionally is cheaper than actually writing a check.

The buyout of course is literally a huge issue.

If Miles is terminated without cause before Jan. 1, he would be owed $15 million, payable over eight years (twice the time remaining on his current contract). His assistants would have to be paid roughly an additional $2 million for six months salary (thanks to the “Les Miles clause” in their contracts) for a total buyout of $17 million.

It’s a staggering sum, but apparently not a deal breaker.

Did you see the post game news conference by Ezekiel Elliot, their great RB? Said the coaches play calling was bad. Said the coaches did not put them in position to win. Plus, other very vulgar comments in general. Amazing stuff. Sounds threatening.
