Alabama assistant Mario Cristobal is at the top of the University of Miami’s wishlist to become the Hurricanes’ next head coach, sources have told Football Scoop.

Cristobal handles offensive line coaching duties for the Crimson Tide and is one of Nick Saban’s top recruiters. The Miami native has reached into South Florida and signed several major prospects since joining Alabama’s staff in 2013.

That's what I was afraid of. I hope CNS can find another coach that can recruit South Florida, if this happens.

The price of success, unfortunately

Yeah, I was reading about this 3-4 weeks ago when the Al Golden talk was red hot. Normally, offensive/defensive line coaches don't make the best head coaches. Miami is a total mess, bad facilities, small student enrollment, small fan base, lot of long distance travel, etc. Good luck, he'll need it.

Miami is a hot pile of stinky garbage, but it might be a "Mama Called" moment for CMC since he played there on that '92 team.

I think Miami will select someone with previous head coaching experience. :dunno:

Could Texas' Charlie Strong and Cincinnati coach Tommy Tuberville have interest in Miami's open coaching job?

Quote
Tuberville seems to make more sense as a legitimate candidate. The former Auburn and Texas Tech coach moved to Cincinnati from Lubbock before the 2013 season and won nine games in each of his first two years with the Bearcats. Cincinnati is currently 5-4.

Tuberville is 61, however.

Tuberville's long-time assistant, Eddie Grann, could end up at Miami.
He's recruited south Florida for ...
1. Ole Miss
2. Aubrrun
3. Texas Tech
4. Cincy

He's a prick, like Tubs, but he might be their best choice.

I’m kinda torn on the CMC going to Miami thingy. While his recruiting has been invaluable….I don’t think he’s a great OL position coach. Since he’s been here the OL has had a huge drop off. This may not be a popular statement but our OL has struggled against mediocre competition this year. I think the LSU game was OK but they seem to always struggle getting assignments correct. To me that’s coaching.
So, it’s a trade off if CMC leaves. Do we drop in quality recruiting? Does the quality of OL play increase? Maybe….maybe not. But the one thing is for sure….trust in the process…..trust in Coach Saban’s leadership.

Mark Richt after he is fired from UGA.
