Title: Upshaw ready to compete after injured 2010 season
Post by: pmull on August 10, 2011, 09:56:08 AM
Six of his seven sacks came in the last four games of the season with three coming against Auburn. He also posted career highs with 10 tackles and two forced fumbles in the 28-27 loss.

His aggressive play carried over to Jan. 1.

Two of Upshaw’s five tackles in the Capital One Bowl demolition of Michigan State were sacks that led to an MVP honor. He blindsided Spartan quarterback Kirk Cousins on both sacks. The first forced a fumble and set the tone for the long day Michigan State passers faced.

“Courtney’s doing a good job. He’s worked hard and had a good summer,” coach Nick Saban said. “I think he’s very, very confident and certainly executes with a lot more consistency. I think he was healthy in the bowl game and played very, very well. We like the way he’s trying to help some of the other players and his leadership, and he should be a very productive player for us this year.”

He and Hightower will shadow each other as the leader of this team on defense.

The second I hear "high ankle sprain" I start thinking in terms of next season. That particular injury never seems to "go away" until the player gets a month or three off.

Upshaw has the opportunity to share all-american honors with Hightower this year. RTR

In bowl game Michigan State was first and goal and end up punting. I am not sure I have seen that before.

If this season plays out as most folks want to think it will, there's a chance of multiple all-americans on the D. Again I use the word "IF".

Maybe we are just dreaming, but I can imagine a situation where someone gets left off the AA team just because there were already too many Bama guys on the team already. That statement may be laughable to others but I am hoping that as fellow Tide fans y'all will cut me some slack.
