Title: Tide Basketball Info & Early Season Games Post by: Marshal Dillon on May 14, 2015, 04:04:34 PM I must have missed this when it was first announced. A very challenging list of teams. A good way to test the Tide early in the season.
Quote Orlando Classic – Nov. 26, 27 & 29 The Orlando Classic, held at HP Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Fla., will feature Alabama, Dayton, Iowa, Notre Dame, Southern California, Wichita State, Xavier and a team to be named at a future date. Dayton, Iowa, Wichita State and Xavier all earned 2014 NCAA Championship berths. Dayton advance to the Elite Eight and Wichita State made an appearance in the third round, while Iowa and Xavier played in First Four games. Wichita State stands at No. 11 in the Associated Press poll (Nov. 17), while Dayton, Iowa and Notre Dame all received votes. Additional information, including travel packages, can be found on the Orlando Classic website. http://espnmediazone.com/us/press-releases/2014/11/top-teams-announced-for-2015-espn-events-early-season-mens-basketball-tournaments/  :tinfoil:  Title: Re: Tide Basketball Info & Early Season Games Post by: Catch Prothro on May 14, 2015, 04:35:38 PM Looks like Bama will be considered the "easy win." :dunno:

It's a given that Bama will struggle some this year but if we are going to struggle, let it be against the better teams. I've been really interested in hearing CAJ talk about the pace of play for the team this year. If I'm hearing him correctly, he's talking about a 25 or 30 sec shot clock for the team which is a much faster paced team than any of us has ever seen at Bama. This might make his tough job of putting this team together a little easier than what CAG tried to do with the slow deliberate style play that he liked. I think the players respond much better to the up tempo coaching style than the slower play. I read in an article recently where Bama was ranked right at the back of the pack nationally in reference to team possessions last season and this is at the top of the list for CAJ to get corrected. He seems to have an agenda of the things that must change for the team to be better and this is more than I have seen from a coaching staff at Bama in quite some time. Just my thoughts. RTR!!

Title: Re: Tide Basketball Info & Early Season Games Post by: pmull on May 15, 2015, 08:09:47 AM I do not think the non conference schedule will feature a lot big name teams other than the tournament in Orlando. Rumor has it that Bama opted out of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. CAJ has said several times he wants a softer schedule early to help the new coaching staff and new players adjust.
The link below is from Bamahoopsblog.com. It is about the SEC/Big 12 Challenge it its talks a lot about the upcoming schedule and how CAJ plans to schedule the non conference early part of the season. http://bamahoops.blogspot.com/2015/05/big-12sec-challenge-games-announced.html Quote When asked about the schedule recently, Johnson said, "I don't know if we're ready to play the teams that are ranked first, second and third in the preseason whenever that comes out. But we have to have a competitive schedule but at the same time we have some buy-game situations that we're going to play some teams that we should have a lot of success against." That makes sense, and I have no argument with CAJ's decision on that. My only concern is that a softer schedule could be a problem if the Tide finds itself in a position to get a tourney bid in March. On the other hand, if we don't win some games in November and December, it won't matter anyway. :dunno: Title: Re: Tide Basketball Info & Early Season Games Post by: SUPERCOACH on May 15, 2015, 04:22:18 PM I don't mind being a bubble team that gets passed over in year 1. It is not likely that we could even be in the conversation this year without some early cupcakes.
