Title: Bama sweeps Auburn and the barners are taking it hard. Post by: pmull on May 11, 2015, 12:29:07 PM Auburn had been on a roll. They had won three straight SEC series to even their conference record at 12-12. They cracked the Top 25 and had an RPI of 19. They thought 2 wins against Alabama was going to be easy and they should have a very good chance of a sweep.
The barn coaches and fans could not handle what happened. Alabama finally played up to their potential. We got good pitching and timely hitting. We were by far the better team this weekend. We had 33 hits and scored 21 in the last two games. Before Sunday's game Auburn Coach Sunny Golloway and the Alabama coaching staff got in a heated argument before Game 3 even started. Apparently Auburn kicked the Alabama team out of the practice facilities before the game. Most schools share their facilities when hosting weekend series. Some Auburn fans who saw what happened thought it was embarrassing and showed a lack of class by Golloway. Alabama got the best of the barn again in Game 3. Coach Mitch Gaspard did not let up in the 9 run 9th to build a 10 run lead. In fact, he brought in our closer to finish them off in the bottom of the 9th. The article below is written by Phillip Marshall who writes for the Auburn scout site. He does not paint a very pretty picture of what happened in Auburn this weekend. The barm message boards are not taking the sweep very well either. Quote That there was a profanity-laced pregame argument between Golloway and Alabama coaches only served to add to the discomfort of the last day. "Embarrassing," said one who witnessed it. It was no coincidence that Alabama kept the hammer down as the game got out of hand in the top of the ninth inning and brought its closer in for the third straight game to pitch the bottom of the ninth with a 10-run lead. Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard, one of the league’s really nice guys, is fighting for his job. He said Alabama is a talented team that had underachieved. Certainly, Alabama has some good players. That Alabama won a game wasn’t a shock. But three? Far better Alabama teams than this one have been unable to pull that off at Plainsman Park. When it was over, there was no dogpile, no wild celebration. Players from "the school up north," as Golloway likes to call Alabama, shook hands, got on the bus and went home like they expected it all along. The worst weekend in the history of Auburn baseball? It's hard to imagine one being any worse. http://auburn.247sports.com/Article/PMARSHONAU-Worst-weekend-ever-for-Auburn-baseball-37213904 Title: Re: Bama sweeps Auburn and the barners are taking it hard. CMG may not have a job in a few weeks, but dang, I love him for this! Title: Re: Bama sweeps Auburn and the barners are taking it hard. Post by: pmull on May 14, 2015, 09:34:41 AM Phillip Marshall, a long time die hard barn beat writer, will not drop this issue. He wrote about it again Wednesday the day after a barn win over Morehead State. I am not sure what his agenda is but he sure is making Golloway look bad.
Quote Auburn coach Sunny Golloway, for whatever reason, decided he wanted the Auburn batting cages locked and not made available to Alabama. It is SEC policy that any such facilities available to the home team are also available to the visiting team. It had not been a problem in any previous series this season or in previous seasons. That dispute, eventually resolved when the SEC office told Auburn officials to tell Golloway he had to make the cages available, resulted in a confrontation in which Golloway, in front of numerous witnesses, leveled a stream of loud profanity at Alabama assistant coaches and later at head coach Mitch Gaspard. Alabama, of course, came to town with an 8-16 SEC record and swept the three-game series, potentially destroying Auburn's season. At best, it was an unfortunate and embarrassing situation, unprecedented in the Auburn-Alabama baseball rivalry. http://auburn.247sports.com/Article/PMARSHONAU-An-unfortunate-situation-37250674 Title: Re: Bama sweeps Auburn and the barners are taking it hard. Post by: Jamos on May 14, 2015, 09:05:35 PM I'm surprised the SEC hasn't had something to say about this to Auburn, not only about the outburst of the profanity to the coaches but the refusal to let the team use the facilities. Maybe the SEC just figured this was Auburn and it isn't surprising they would do such a stunt. :dunno:
