Title: Coach Avery Johnson Lists 3 Things Tide Must Improve On
Post by: Marshal Dillon on May 08, 2015, 03:46:38 PM
Boy he sure nailed it on all 3 points & he didn't even mention rebounding. Read his comments closely, they are very revealing.

Quote
"I want to play a lot faster," Johnson said. "I think it's important for us to play a lot faster. I want to increase the possessions of our games and not worry so much about the 35-second shot clock."

A year ago, Alabama ranked 283rd among 351 Division I teams in possessions per game. The Tide averaged 64.9, well behind the national best 80.1. Fans in Coleman Coliseum grew restless with possessions running deep into the shot clock ending with forced looks at the rim.

"We're a long ways off from being a very good basketball team," he said. "But we'll get there. It's just going to take a lot of work."

This is revealing about one of our greatest shortcomings.

"Spacing," Johnson said. "We don't understand spacing right now. Passing on time and on target and being efficient in everything we're doing."

This is very encouraging.  These are the words of a coach who knows what a good BB team is supposed to look like during the game.

I'm pretty impressed with just about everything CAJ has said since being hired.  Easy to see why CBB realized after one meeting that he could be a good coach.  Still, lots to prove on the court.

I like everything he is doing so far. I do not know how good we will be next year but I look forward to a much exciting style of play.

Well if CAJ sees the problems then he can start fixing them. At least knowing is a big part of correcting. It looks like he is going after some players who can train and fix this machine. RTR!

He's so right about the spacing and ball movement.
