We always do better when we're behind (See 2009).

Title: Re: Oklahoma will start at No. 1 in USA TODAY preseason poll Post by: Catch Prothro on August 04, 2011, 01:44:36 PM Bama has always done well with a No. 2 ranking. Less of a target and more motivation. Here's hoping we stay there until the last game of the season, when we move up to #1.

As long as your watching the scores crawler ALL DAY LONG every Saturday, it may as well be the Tide in that top spot. PSU at #25 gets the Top 25 call just because voters feel sorry for Jopa. Again this season, the embarassingly striking omission of the Big East. Let me be first to get the ball rolling on them losing their BCS qualifying status as a league. This would make room for a third SEC qualifier.Title: Re: Oklahoma will start at No. 1 in USA TODAY preseason poll Post by: Coach Hank Crisp on August 04, 2011, 06:24:45 PM There ain't no way they are 42-13 first place votes better than Bama, but I'll take the #2 ranking. BCS will give a birth to a team from a power conference if they can. 8) Title: Re: Oklahoma will start at No. 1 in USA TODAY preseason poll Post by: SUPERCOACH on August 04, 2011, 06:59:05 PM For an SEC team, it makes no difference where you start in the preseason poll. If you handle your business against the SEC competition, you will make the title game. According to the OP article, Auburn started at #23 last year, if I understand that correctly. The way the conferences line up right now, an undefeated SEC champ will always go to the big game, unless of course you're Auburn.

Only a few years later, LSU loses 2 games, goes to the title game, and wins.
