Title: Ten Teams That Can Dethrone the SEC in the BCS Game
Post by: Marshal Dillon on August 04, 2011, 10:48:23 AM
Okay article.

The popular saying this time of year is "everyone is undefeated." Although that's true, one conference has rendered preseason parity meaningless for the past half-decade.

Whether through BCS blessing or just flat-out dominance, the Southeastern Conference has won the national title in each of the past five years. It's not as though one team has established a dynasty, either: Four different SEC schools won championships in that time.

TCU although they are good and will give the Big East a prominent name now way can they beat the SEC Champion.
Standford is in the running because of last year's coach. He is gone now.
Texas A&M this year is legit because I feel an upset on Okla. it being TA&M.
Wisconsin is good but no better than MSU. Running game but not against Alabama or other SEC teams.
VA Tech probably better than last year but no way they amke it to a NCG. The ACC is to weak period.
Okla. ST. at number 5 is a way to high of a rank in my opinion. Olka. and TA&M all are so much better.
FSU is coming but not this year. CJF will have a NCG in the next 2 years because of schedule but not this year. Okla. will be their demise.
Oregon has speed if they get behind you But they have an SEC defense to get behind I really don't think that happens. Besides they couldn't beat Auburn with their best team.
Boise State as the highest ranked the #2 team with the cahnce to knock off an SEC Champiuon in the game. NO WAY! Power, and more power and they could not last for 4 Qtrs.
Okla. is best chance to knock off an SEC team in the NCG nope don't think so.
CBS has always found a way to lose a BCS game. His best team got blown out by USCw. He has to get by TA&M and I don't see that one happening.
This is most thoughts and a great post. We now see all sports people are tending to make sure no SEC team wins another BCS title. It really makes them feel small to us which I guess they should. If you can win it, admit it! RTR!

I think the SEC could be its own worst enemy in getting to the BCS game in the first place.  There are maybe 5-6 SEC teams that could win it all in another conference.  In the BCS, Oklahoma would have the best shot I think.  TCU has lost a lot of players, Wisconsin's run game is not going to move the pile against an SEC defense, Oregon had a hard time scoring against the Barn's marginal defense last year and I would be surprised if they get past LSU.  I'm not sold on TA&M being all that good; they got blown out by LSU in the bowl game last year.  FSU needs another year I think.  Boise State might not even make it through the "tough" Mountain West.  Now VaTech also could make some noise, their schedule sets up nicely to make the BCS game if another team ahead of them falls, but still OK has the best shot.

Right now, I would say OK and Oregon would have the best shot, followed by Wisconsin. TAM usually disappoints and TCU & Boise just don't have the horses.

Great discussion guys.

The whole article is based on an incorrect premise:  there isn't 10 teams that can beat the eventual SEC champ in the BCS NCG.  At least not NCAA teams.  There might be 10 NFL teams.

I was laughing to myself while I read the article. Maybe OU and Va Tech stand a chance to beat the SEC team. Also funny,-- OU will have to wait 6 weeks from the end of their regular schedule until they tee it up in the NCG. They are limited to the alloted practice days for a bowl game, NOT including the practice days the SEC team will get preparing for the SECCG.

Doesn't FSU owe The Tide a home game from 2007. When is that game scheduled?

I could be wrong, but I think we played the home game with them first under Shula.  So I think that series is completed.  I wouldn't mind seeing it again though, especially after Jimbo has a couple more years to build their program.

I thought it was 2007 and CNS's first year. Wilson fumbled late and FSU won. I believe FSU asked and changed the date for a return to Tuscaloosa.

You are probably right about that.  The game at their place was definitely CNS's first year, I remember that one.  I don't have any recollection of this alleged game in Tuscaloosa that I talked about, so it probably never happened.  Now that I think about it, maybe it was a neutral site game at Jacksonville or somewhere?  Anybody remember?

That one score of 21-0 is really ugly. They must have powered us that day. RTR!

I think that is 21-0 in Bama's favor.
