For 40 years they had one of the best minor league system in all of MLB. The fact the Dodgers have the biggest payroll in all of baseball is shocking to me. It shows a certain desperation to win now in my opinion. They haven't won the World Series since 1988. The Rupert Murdoch years were not kind. It's turning back around, though. The ownership and current front office were very vocal that big free agent spending was temporary and a result of the poor farm system management over the last several years. Now the farm system is healthy again, and the big contributors this year (besides Clayton Kershaw who is home grown but has been there long enough to get the big contract) are not the big money free agent guys.
