Title: Atlanta Braves Look Invincible
Post by: Marshal Dillon on April 09, 2015, 04:53:07 PM
Braves lead their division. Can they go undefeated after beating the mighty Marlins 3-in-arow? Is this team better than the 1927 Yankees?

Yep, we were up 20-6 on OSU in the Sugar Bowl. In other words, it's early.  :-\

Should I merge this topic with your, "Atlanta Braves Being Dismantled" thread a few days ago?

Quote
3. If it were not obvious the Braves are pretty much going to be a non-factor to the Mets and others trying to contend in the NL East in 2015 (and probably 2016), the Gattis trade emphasizes it further.

Braves win again, 5-3, against Mets. Braves are 5-0, only 157 games left in season. I wonder if I can get World Series tickets?

Since everyone is so bored due to lack of football/college basketball/Tide baseball in Omaha I thought I would add to the boredom by talking about the Atlanta Braves.

BRAVES MLB STATS

Hitting

Average:  .232  28th (out of 30)
RBI's:       179  30th
Runs         188  30th
HR's            25  (next worst team has 50) Braves have played 60 games so far

Pitching:

ERA     4.40  28th
Saves  10  (Braves led NL in saves & had best closer on MLB in Craig Kimbrel who at age 27 was traded away.
Kimbrel had 186 saves in 5 years. He was given away in order to get rid of B.J. Upton salary.)

How long do Braves fans accept this garbage and lousy excuses? Does anyone truly believe in a miraculous turn around in 2 years? Just wondering.

Floundering around in mediocrity while carrying a $250M payroll isn't exactly a good time either.

They dumped all their big time salaries & now have a team payroll of $81 mil, 27th lowest out of 30 teams.

Dodgers are an interesting study in baseball economics. For many, many years they refused to go crazy in the free agent market & relied on a strong farm system. For 40 years they had one of the best minor league system in all of MLB. The fact the Dodgers have the biggest payroll in all of baseball is shocking to me. It shows a certain desperation to win now in my opinion. They haven't won the World Series since 1988. Their favorite team, the SF Giants have won 3 in the last 6 years.

It really went down hill after the O'Malley family sold the team, and the front office changed.  The Rupert Murdoch years were not kind.

It's turning back around, though.  The ownership and current front office were very vocal that big free agent spending was temporary and a result of the poor farm system management over the last several years.  Now the farm system is healthy again, and the big contributors this year (besides Clayton Kershaw who is home grown but has been there long enough to get the big contract) are not the big money free agent guys.  The production is coming from the future core - Seager, Pederson, etc.

Knowing the genius's running the team, they will get a 34 year old left-handed shortstop with bad knees for Freeman.

Lol, something sure is because it it weren't for Freddie Freeman I wouldn't know any of them. I do enjoy their commentators though, they seem to do a good job with the situation there and talk about some interesting stuff which overshadows their lack of play at times.

Braves being challenged as the worst team in MLB. Twins making a strong push & are 20-47, Braves are 21-46. Is it possible to have 2 teams with 110 losses in the same year? Can the Braves come on strong & lose only 107 games? Time will tell.

Braves have shown major improvement the past month. They were on target to lose 110 games but now with a .341 winning percentage, they are projected to go 55-107. If they continue their hot play, they may lose only 100 games. No doubt the grand plan of the geniuses in the front office will upgrade the team by getting some sore-armed pitchers or over-the-hill outfielders/infielders.
