Title: An Early Way to Beat the Odds

The college-football season is still a month away, and NFL teams are still in the midst of their post-lockout signing sprees.

And yet the Houston Texans are already a six-point favorite over the Tennessee Titans when they meet Jan. 1.

Alabama is an eight-point favorite at Penn State Sept. 10.

Oregon is favored by two points in its Nov. 12 showdown at Stanford, and if you had a good feeling about the Dec. 3 Oklahoma-Oklahoma State game, you could have bet on it moons ago. (The Sooners are now a three-point favorite.)

Likewise, heavy betting on the Bulldogs has caused Georgia to go from a three-point underdog against Florida to a one-point favorite, and from a 4-1/2-point favorite against defending national-champion Auburn to nine.

Because only two Las Vegas sports books—the Golden Nugget's and the M Casino's, run by Cantor Gaming—offer the betting lines so early, and because so little is known about teams at this early stage

I assume you think Alabama -8 is easy money?

Sorry, wouldn't touch it.  Young QB and 107k PSU fans.  No thanks.

I'll spot the 8. I expect PSU to head downhill this year.

No doubt that PSU has been forcused on this game for a year.

This is an opportunity bet. Lets say for argument sake (theoretical) the actual betting line closes at Bama -3. You bet them both for say $1000.

You bet $1000 on PSU +8 now.
You bet $1000 on Bama -3 on Saturday of game.
If the score lands in the middle, say Bama wins by 7,6,5,or 4, then you win $2000. You risk only $100 (juice). Early, soft lines offer opportunities.

The Las Vegas books (Golden Nugget's and the M Casino's)  let you choose what you like as of today their point spreads. Of course they will change until the game.

If you really like particular plays, now is the time to get them.

You can bet PSU won't have that 'touchy, feely' attitude some of you showed last year when they came to Tusc.. I still feel we have far too much talent and that the SEC in general has far too much big game experience for PSU to compete with effectively. But they won't be bowing down out of respect for Coach Saban like some of you did with Jopa. 8 points would not scare me off and the "White Out" is a losers gimmick.

Besides, with WV being at the game in the elephant suit, I see us hammering the Nittany Lions like 38-13.

I don't want to take all the credit...

No way! They will have the razor-sharp of mind of Joe Pa on the sidelines quickly adjusting to any changes the other team throws at them and planning ahead to trap their foe off guard.
