Title: Alabama Better Be Wary of Friendly Boosters per Tony Barnhart
Post by: Marshal Dillon on July 31, 2011, 04:45:03 PM
Good points made.

1. Alabama had better be right on T-Town Menswear: Remember when I told you that the world changed after Ohio State's "Tat Five" played in the Sugar Bowl? That reality is hitting home at Alabama

Did you guys read the article? He makes the point very clear, the NCAA isn't believing programs anymore when they say everything is okay. This is due to all the lying by Tressel and the OSU folks when they said everything was okay with the tattoo shop allegations when they first came out.

I read it but when he stated "But there is smoke" and used SbB and CT as his evidence I figured he was high .
with exhibit A being  pictures that barners sent them and then even  had the the wrong mall as the location
where the pics were taken ... I figured the ncaa is laughing as hard as I am ...
he then ended the paragraph with "Again, there is currently no proof that a violation has occurred."
I thought .... then why bring it up Tony ?

I guess I am really tired of these national inquirer type reporters , Tony usually is legit and
it surprised me he used those two as a reference ...

I think his overall point is, the NCAA is taking he gloves off, and if we or anyone says their program is clean, then it better be clean or the full wrath of the NCAA is falling on that program. Ohio State will soon find that out.

I must admit, my heart sank a little when I read this:

Quote
But there is smoke. A website run by attorney Clay Travis (outkickthecoverage.com) has obtained photos of former player Julio Jones (who had been pictured in the store) wearing 16 -- that's right, 16 -- different suits to Alabama football games (some sharp stuff, I might add). Again, there is currently no proof that a violation has occurred.

In all honesty, that is disturbing and I wonder if the compliance people checked that out.

Why?

If they were loaned, would that be legal?

Again, I think SbyB simply reported on the Clay Travis story in outkickthe coverage.com. Barnhart mentioned only Clay Travis in this article. Read my last post in the t-town menswear thread.

No, it was 16 different combinations of suits. And many of Julio's Suits were very ill fitting, not "Custom" as KK-Klay Travis would have you believe. Matter of fact some of pics posted of JJ in his "suits" made me feel bad for him. Add to the fact that TTMW, sales cheap suits, gives student discounts ( to all students) and has 3/1 deals twice a year. It is another non-issue. I could by suits ( that looked like some of Julio's) cheaper than a pair of Levis and a polo pull over...

Do you guys really think that a star player under Saban could consistently wear new suits every single game(brazenly given to him illegally by a booster no less)without getting Saban's attention, especially knowing how he pays attention to details (remember, these players walk out WITH Saban - he has to see how they are dressed)?  He knows the economic background of these players and their families - I find it hard to believe, unless Saban doesn't care, which I highly doubt.

Can any of you name a specific major violation like this that has occurred at any school Saban has been head coach?  I can't think of one, but maybe I'm wrong.

I tend to believe what Cecil Hurt stated in his column the other day - this is not an "Ohio Sate" case. I find it almost idiotic to think someone in our coaching staff (ala Tressell) is covering something up.  Alabama did exaclty what they should have done in ths case.

I had posted a few weeks ago about a hat that Julio autographed for me through a mutual friend. A hat that he did not purchase, and was a hat, not a football as she first requested, because JJ stated that CNS forbade the autographing of footballs. The reason being because players get in trouble when these footballs get sold on Ebay.

Now what does that tell you about JJ? This is something, had he autographed a football for me, would have gone unnoticed. So does anyone really think he would brazenly wear suits that were given to him in exchange for autographed memorabilia? I think not.

Excellent point.  This is Julio we are talking about here, not some random player.  There is no way he did anything like that.
