Title: USOC Choice to Bid for 2024 Olympics Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 08, 2015, 09:48:43 PM I didn't think they had a chance against Los Angeles.
Quote Boston, which stages a celebrated marathon and has a rich history of professional championships in basketball, football, baseball and hockey, will now swing for the fences in international sport as it seeks to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/09/sports/olympics/boston-to-be-us-bid-city-for-2024-olympics.html Title: Re: USOC Choice to Bid for 2024 Olympics Post by: Catch Prothro on January 10, 2015, 10:23:07 AM Could be. Los Angeles has hosted the Olympics twice before. Boston is trending since the bombing.

Boston is trending since the bombing. Yeah, I thought that might have played a big part in the decision. Plus, they have a lot of potential venues like the Patriots stadium, Boston College, Boston University, Fenway Park, Boston Garden, Harvard, Charles River, Boston Harbor, etc. Title: Re: USOC Choice to Bid for 2024 Olympics Post by: pmull on January 10, 2015, 03:49:57 PM Boston and the surrounding area is very scenic and full of history. As MD said there are many nice sporting venues already in place. I think Boston would be a great place to hold the Olympics.

2016 Rio (I expect this to be a disaster) 2020 Tokyo 2024 Possible Competition: Boston Paris (strong) Istanbul (no way) Berlin (weak) Hamburg (strong to medium) St. Petersburg (no way) Hamburg (medium) Brisbane I tink Boston has a huge chance to get the Olympics. Title: Re: USOC Choice to Bid for 2024 Olympics Post by: Catch Prothro on January 10, 2015, 07:07:00 PM Olympics info: Of course it isn't just the city, but the actual proposal, politics, whose turn is it, etc.2016 Rio (I expect this to be a disaster) 2020 Tokyo 2024 Possible Competition: Boston Paris (strong) Istanbul (no way) Berlin (weak) Hamburg (strong to medium) St. Petersburg (no way) Hamburg (medium) Brisbane I tink Boston has a huge chance to get the Olympics. Title: Re: USOC Choice to Bid for 2024 Olympics Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 10, 2015, 08:26:34 PM Olympics info: Of course it isn't just the city, but the actual proposal, politics, whose turn is it, etc.2016 Rio (I expect this to be a disaster) 2020 Tokyo 2024 Possible Competition: Boston Paris (strong) Istanbul (no way) Berlin (weak) Hamburg (strong to medium) St. Petersburg (no way) Hamburg (medium) Brisbane I tink Boston has a huge chance to get the Olympics. Yep, plus money under the table. We haven't had the Summer Olympics since 1996, Boston has a lot of venues, & security will be a paramount concern. I think these are advantages for USA. It might be more interesting if they let the Taliban, ISIS, Hamas, Hezbollah, Boko Haram, al-Qaeda, Al-Nusra Front, etc. field a team. We need some bad guys to root against.
