Title: USOC Choice to Bid for 2024 Olympics
Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 08, 2015, 09:48:43 PM
I didn't think they had a chance against Los Angeles.

Quote
Boston, which stages a celebrated marathon and has a rich history of professional championships in basketball, football, baseball and hockey, will now swing for the fences in international sport as it seeks to host the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Could be.  Los Angeles has hosted the Olympics twice before.  Boston is trending since the bombing.

Yeah, I thought that might have played a big part in the decision. Plus, they have a lot of potential venues like the Patriots stadium, Boston College, Boston University, Fenway Park, Boston Garden, Harvard, Charles River, Boston Harbor, etc.

Boston and the surrounding area is very scenic and full of history. As MD said there are many nice sporting venues already in place. I think Boston would be a great place to hold the Olympics.

Olympics info:

2016  Rio (I expect this to be a disaster)
2020  Tokyo

2024 Possible Competition:

Boston
Paris (strong)
Istanbul (no way)
Berlin (weak)
Hamburg (strong to medium)
St. Petersburg (no way)
Hamburg (medium)
Brisbane

I tink Boston has a huge chance to get the Olympics.

Of course it isn't just the city, but the actual proposal, politics, whose turn is it, etc.

Yep, plus money under the table. We haven't had the Summer Olympics since 1996, Boston has a lot of venues, & security will be a paramount concern. I think these are advantages for USA.

They still do the Olympics?  Who knew.  :dunno:

It might be more interesting if they let the Taliban, ISIS, Hamas, Hezbollah, Boko Haram, al-Qaeda, Al-Nusra Front, etc. field a team.  We need some bad guys to root against.

And new events such as "Ring the basket with the severed head" and "Where's the IED?".

It's not like the days of rooting against the Soviet Union.  I guess there's always China.     ???
