Former top recruit Da'Shawn Hand reflects on freshman season at Alabama

Hand said the biggest adjustment he's had to make is how to use his hands against stronger offensive linemen.

"In high school, I was bigger than everybody," Hand said. "I could go past anybody easily. College is crazy now. Coming to college, they emphasize it a lot. You really need to know hand-to-hand combat."

Hand has also adjusted well to college life, academically and socially. He surprised many when he picked Alabama over Michigan last fall, but cited academics as a big reason. Hand is majoring in civil engineering...
