Chatting with former teammate Greg McElroy on his Sirius XM radio show Wednesday morning, Sims spelled out some of the things he's working to improve this bye week. First, coach Nick Saban told him to improve his ability to read defensive coverages.

"Just keep working on my footwork and getting the ball out faster," Sims told the satellite radio audience. "I think one thing that everybody's going to see that I'm working on right now that they will see at LSU is that I will be getting the ball out much faster."

Sims also said they're working to streamline the communication. Going to one of the loudest stadiums in the country next week, they're looking to eliminate the vocal side of things. It'll be down to hand signals that can come in from the sideline....

Good stuff.

2 things, that if executed correctly, could be a major factor in the game.

I think the breakdown in communication has been the biggest factor when the team has looked so bad at times. They were kicking the Vols behind pretty bad Saturday night and then it seemed the sideline, coaches, couldn't talk to the players on the field. The players on offense and defense seemed to forget what they were supposed to do, the offense couldn't get a first down and the defense couldn't get off the field. I would think that after this many games played this season that all of these "play calling" mental mistakes would have been corrected by now. What I mean by "play calling" is what the coaches are signaling in from the sideline for both the offense and the defense.

We are entering the "do-or-die" part of the season.  It's maddening that communication, assignment and play clock issues still persist at this point.  Time for leaders to step up and get on some folks.
