Title: Worst what-if plays in Ole Miss game?
Post by: Chechem on October 07, 2014, 10:17:06 AM
Past the 24-hour period, but...

I can't get past thinking about the personal foul call that Ole Miss got after tying the game 17-17.  The OM player removed his helmet and waved to the Alabama crowd after the TD.  Flag thrown, 15 yards on the kickoff.

So, Ole Miss (who had kicked through the endzone all day) kicks from the 20, Christion Jones returns it, and FUMBLES.

The personal foul led to a fumble!  OMG  Game over.

Additional layer of irony: The kick was angling to go OB before the end zone. If it wast fielded and that happened it would have meant a rekick from the 15, giving us excellent field position (if we don't fumble it in the parallel universe)

To me one of the biggest single plays that changed the outcome was the last penalty right before the interception at the end.  If it were not for that penalty we would have been inside the 20 with about 45 seconds to go and a timeout.

If there wasn't a hold (i didnt really see one) by OJ near the end of the game when Blake rolled out and kept it........who know right.

I also heard on the radio yesterday that the ball was Intercepted with 38 sec's left.....that was the players number for Ole Miss they are honoring. :tinfoil:

#38 belonged to Chucky Mullins before he was paralyzed.  Each year an OM player "earns" the right to wear his number.

BTW, nice avatar...  8)

Wow, good point by ALTU.  I thought at the time, "Let it go, let it go....; Go Christion... OMG".

Good point by SC and TSM: OJ Howard's holding penalty, which the announcers pointed out 'resulted from Blake Sims rolling right without OJ realizing it'.  As CNS said, ~~"We'd have had the ball at the 12 with a whole different set of play options."

38 seconds = Chucky Mullins.  WOW.  I met Chucky after the accident.  Indeed, that was a great kid.  The world lost a prize when he died.

Football is like this.  Crazy bounces (like the Ingram fumble vs Aubs), injuries (ugh), and missed assignments decide games, lives, careers...

Another by me:  When I noticed how windy it had gotten before the game I posted the in-game thread about it.  It hadn't been windy in Oxford for days.
It was so windy that we had to hold the ball for the initial kickoff, the ball went very low, and OM returned it across the 50.  The crowd was in the game, they got 3 points, and we fought uphill for a quarter.  UGH!

Remember when Trent Richardson juked #21 for Ole Miss a few years ago?

That player was Senquez Golson, who made the interception Saturday to end the game.

 :dunno:

Apparently, he was able to find his jock strap.

I heard a discussion about Golson yesterday.  He was teased and labeled by that TR play.  The game Saturday finally gave him back his dignity (and jockstrap).  :lol2:

He will forever live in Rebel lore. Personally, I would prefer it was just for the Trent juke.  :wall:

Come on!

Weren't you at the game?

BAMA should have been trailing by 1td+ at the half.  Fortunately, ole piss kept shooting themselves in the foot.

This was discussed among my party at halftime and all agreed that BAMA was lucky to not be trailing by 1, or 2, tds.

The 2nd quarter was ours. The 1st, 3rd and 4th, not so much.

I agree with that.

So, 21 ole piss and 14 good guys, or 28 - 14 rebel bears?

Also, Golson's catch in no way makes up for his being left standing still at the 15yd line.
