Title: "SOME THOUGHTS ON WHY ALABAMA STRUGGLED VS. OLE MISS"
Post by: bama57 on October 06, 2014, 06:19:20 AM
T.J. Yeldon: bright spot for Alabama yesterday w/ 20 rushes for 123 yards

I’m saying this with the understanding that it’s 1 game and the season isn’t over. The obvious are:
-our ’10 & ’11 classes were not what all of us, myself included, believed. The
truth is that our staff understands their best talent are freshman &
sophomores. I was told months ago most expect Bama to have it’s best chance
at another 2-year run in ’15 & ’16.

-we have key guys who simply don’t like contact in Vogler, Brown & Howard.

-Howard had better put any thoughts of 3 & done with his Disney collection.

57, please put quotes around titles if they are articles.  It clarifies that this is a printed article, not an opinion of the OP (original poster).  I added them for you.

Pretty harsh words in this article, but that's what people dredge up after a loss.  I'm eager to hear what Jamos thinks of these specific comments about the individual players.

I agree with you 57 on all but one item. The idea of 15 and 16 can not happen. By the time these young guys learn football they will be off to the NFL and we will still be playing Freshmen and Sophomores. I can't see us winning championships with these young players. Please feel free to to add anything that might I might have wrong. The SEC is not the ACC where you can win with Freshmen and Sophomores. RTR!

Ricky, I don't agree with most of what was in that article. It came from Alabama Intel and I just posted it to see what other posters here thought about it! I would expect comments like what is in that link from Scarbinsky, but, not from us!

One thing for sure, I am glad I was called to preach and not to be a writer. As you said, scarbinsky is not friendly at all. I would have to print truth not about selling papers but to inform the fans. RTR!

 :popcorn2:

Pointing fingers is not one of the things I enjoy doing. Every player that played last Saturday made some mistakes during the game and did the Christion Jones fumble or the pass to O.J Howard at the end of the game cause Bama to lose the game? Most fans will want to think so but I disagree totally. Key injuries is what I have put most of the blame on and I'm not saying their replacements didn't play well but those injuries just changed the whole tempo of the Bama team. Bama looked like an easy winner when they left the field at halftime but the same team that left at the half didn't come back out the second half and we all saw what happened next, they lose. I'm more interested now in getting the team ready for a hog killing next Saturday, the Ole Miss game is water over the dam, history and we fans must do as we want the team to do, move on. RTR!! ;)

I read this on Bama Intel and I will be honest. I almost went off on this guy. What he said is total garbage imo. But I just let it go and decided to not respond at all.  :-X

After I read the "inside info" they posted from Blake the other day, I was thinking about adding their feed to our site so we would get an automatic WALL-E post with a link whenever they publish a new article.  Then I read this article and decided not to.

My thoughts on why we struggled:

1. We certainly did not play our best. We looked to be playing not to lose instead of playing to win.

2. I give most of the credit to Ole Miss. They have a pretty good team, much better than I expected. They played hard and played to win. I think they "out hustled" us.

3. The Ole Miss fans turned their 60K stadium into a hostile environment.

4. Ole Miss got the big game changing turnover.

#2 was HUGE.  They were better than most anyone expected.  All the knuckledraggers said before the game was, 'OM hasn't played anyone, so their D looks good on paper.'  They were very good.

BTW, most of us were wrong last week in predicting Ole Miss:

I could not find my post from last week but in it I brought up the truth about Ole Miss has always been a thorn in our side. It seems when we beat them 25-0 we just barely get out with a win. Reason: They have always been tough to play. Even when Coach Bear was here they would give us a hard time. Anyway that game is over and now we must, must, MUST get ready to play Arkansas. They know we got beat and now that is going to get them fired up thinking they can beat us also. It use to be we could judge our season by how we played against Arkie. I think has slacken a bit but they are still going to be a tough win. RTR!

1st quarter:
3rd and 7 dropped pass for a first down which would have been in OM territory

2nd quarter:
Bama 41  False start now 1st and 15 did not overcome punted
3rd and 1 Bama 44 missed block 1 yard loss.  go from 4th and 2 to 4th and 7 false start
1st and 10 TJY rushes for 9 called back for block in the back.  Overcame this because this was the TD drive.

3rd quarter:
1st and 10 on OM 24 loss of 6.  2nd incomplete pass 3rd 4 yard loss missed FG
1st and 10 on OM 19 going in 4 yard gain.  2nd and 6 on the 15 going in 9 yard loss with a holding call.  Penalty declined and ball on 24.  3rd and 15 on OM 24 going in and now a false start making it 3rd and 20.  DH gains 2 and Bama kicks a 44 yard FG.

4th quarter:
2 wasted time outs on 1st drive of the 4th quarter
fumble on kick off return after unsportsman like penalty on kickoff give OM the ball Bama's 31 going in.    Bust on coverage on TD
Kick off return to 45 and brought back to 13 because of block in the back.
Holding that took away 1st down with about 44 sec and 1 time out left. in the red zone.
Int thrown into double coverage with wide open AC on side line.  If he doesn't score he can get out of bounds and still have a time out left with probably 30+ seconds to go.

This doesn't even include the bad coverage on the 50 yard completion to the tight end on their 4 play drive for the tying TD.

This is why Bama lost the game.
