Nonsense.  Courtney got a 15-yard penalty for the tackle. 
It was discussed on Mike-and-Mike (ESPN2) this morning, and they concluded, "This was a textbook tackle; not illegal, not with crown of the helmet, not helmet to helmet...".

Bottom line: you can't tackle a quarterback hard any more.   :dunno:

I didn't get to see the game, but from this, it looked like a solid, well executed tackle. Need to go back to leather helmets or might as well be two handed touch.

I didn't see the tackle either but... I'm not sure how much impact that play had on the entire game.  I mean, it was just one play.  Did Roth get injured?  Was he able to continue playing for the rest of the game?  Wasn't the score something like 26-6?  Yeah, I'm not buying the "controversy" thing personally.

It sure is becoming a lot harder to do it!! I also thought it was a clean hit. But the ref will call anything that is even close to an illegal hit so in all honesty it did not surprise me the flag was thrown.  :-\

I thought it was an awesome tackle and was surprised by the flag.  It wouldn't be flagged in college.  Apparently crown of the helmet to QB chest is a penalty in the NFL, and the refs thought this one was close enough.   They might as well go to two hand touch at this point.   :think:

I saw the game and the hit, and I have zero problem with what CU did. Everything in the NFL now is about taking away the defense and protecting those money-making QBs. I agree with CP that they might as well go to two-hand touch, or maybe flag football.  :wall:

I think they need to focus their attention on the design of the helmets and not the hit!

I really don't think OZ has much to worry about. He has in all of my known thoughts been an honest man. I would think Ozzie leaves when Ozzie chooses. Ray Rice needs prayer and I am willing to give that everyday. What he did was Wrong but love covers a multitude of sin. Remember one sin is no worse or no more than another. They are all sin. So he has to have chastisement but what it is is for others to determine not me. Glad I don't have that chore. RTR!

I was watching the game & saw the hit. Upshaw had a running start and lifted the QB off the ground with the hit. It was very borderline but refs are being cautious about hits on QB & WR. The amazing thing was Roethilsberger got up right away and held on to the ball. If that was Manziel, they would be holding services for him in Texas today.

The Ravens may not have handled this situation perfectly, but I think they are in less hot water than the league is at this point. Ozzie has it made, and is considered one of the best GMs in the league.

it was the fact that ON and the ravens owner were giving conflicting
accounts of what went down that made me wonder ....

Oh believe me, I think the Ravens totally botched this, particularly owner Steve Bisciotti. This organization is usually top notch, but they messed up this time. I am not sure what the deal is as far as who knew what and when, but I think the entire front office has some culpability here, Ozzie included.
