Title: Tiger says he won't play until fully healthy Post by: 2Stater on June 28, 2011, 03:44:24 PM http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=6712880
Quote Woods did not say whether he would compete in the British Open, which starts July 14 at Royal St. George's. However, he did say he would be surprised if the year ended without him playing another tournament. I wouldn't be surprised to see McIlroy run away with this one also. Could be, CB. Knee injuries don't usually heal well when you put the kind of pressure on it that he does. Knee replacements are hit or miss sometimes. Taking a 9 iron to the face from your wife doesn't instill confidence in your game either. Tough to say. First, he has to get completely healthy. If he gets well, his next problem is his age. He turns 36 in December, so he's no longer the wonder kid he was. Plus, McIlroy looks awesome and he could be trouble for Tiger in future tournaments. Right now, I don't see him winning 5 more majors to beat the record of 18 by Nicklaus. He will never be the dominating player that he once was. He can still come back and do well but to intimidate the other players as he once did, he'll never see that again. There are some young ones out there ready for the challenge of him. Title: Re: Tiger says he won't play until fully healthy Post by: pmull on June 28, 2011, 07:36:21 PM I think his best days are behind him. Once he gets healthy I expect him to win some tournaments, maybe majors. He is too good just to completely fall on the radar.
Title: Re: Tiger says he won't play until fully healthy Post by: ricky023 on June 28, 2011, 07:50:40 PM I still wonder if he has explained to his kids yet why he was out with all these other women? While he is getting healthy it seems he ought to be working relationships with his family. All the Golf power and all the Golf money he will never see those days again. RTR!

It is harder to win on tour today than in Palmer and Nickalus eras. There is good young talant galore in the PGA today. Nickalus admits when he played he had 5 or 6 guys he had to beat. Today, at least half of the field can win at any time. Title: Re: Tiger says he won't play until fully healthy Post by: BAMAWV on June 29, 2011, 03:37:59 PM Golf is still one guy v. his own scorecard. But when trying to make comparisons of different eras of golf,-- changes/improvements in equipment, treatment of injuries and studies of ergonomics, golf course design (and maintenance), and the raw # of courses in the world all combine to make any attempt to reasonably compare almost impossible.
Off topic but something you may like to know,-- comes from the USGA Hall of Fame (Far Hills, NJ near Basking Ridge). They had a Monitor/keyboard setup, that allowed you to pick a player, then select a club to view/review his swing. Say you pick Slammin' Sammy, then select the #1 wood. Real cool. Also they had a computer setup where the program allowed you to design your own golf course. Also real cool. This was maybe 20 yrs. ago but like Cooperstown , 1 day is not enough to properly see all there is to see and do. I' have visited both a couple of times. Canton is on my list. |
