Coach Saban has consistently said that Blake Sims is a talent at QB, and says the competition with Coker is real.  I'm hoping the coaches haven't limited Sims to the pocket, because his ability to run adds a dimension to our offense that's been lacking during the past ... 200 years.   :unsure:

As far as Sims goes, I'm sure that's why he is still in the running. We may very well have a 2 headed monster (or clunker  :dunno: ) running the offense. That would really screw some defenses up. It would take a lot of preparation to try and defend what both QB's could bring to the table.

I think if he occasionally sends Sims in to run a hurry-up wildcat/option offense it could really screw some teams up.  Especially if Yeldon and Henry were on the field with him.

I really do think we'll see some packages involving Sims. He's a senior with some experience, and 2 footed talent to go along with it. I think it would be a waste not to use him occasionally, at least to throw the "D" off balance.

I have no doubt he is doing well in practice.  The problem to me comes when the pass rush starts coming and he take his eyes off the downfield routes too soon.  It will be interesting to see what come out of the first real scrimmage.

My thoughts as well, he tends to tuck and run too soon, I wish we would try the wishbone a little with the RB's we have.

I attended fan day and watched the drills very carefully. I saw nothing that would persuade me to favor Coker over Sims. Sims threw some very nice balls, and Coker threw a disturbing number of INTs. Coker throws the ball on a rope, which can be useful, but also lead to knock downs and ints. He needs to learn to drop it in as well as drill it in. The thing about Sims that was troubling is that he does not use his eyes to keep the secondary and lbs playing honest. He zeros in on his intended target, everyone goes that way, his guy is covered, and it is too late to check down.

If Sims can get over this, he may be able to get more open targets to throw to. If he is really clever, he can use his tendency, which no doubt is already in everyone's scouting report, to bait the D into cheating. Stare at Amari for a few secs and wing it down field to a wide open DW who the safeties have abandoned.

Coker is a helmet above the others. He clearly has a size advantage That has got to be a plus in finding the and and 3rd check and seeing the DBs.

Of the other three, Alex Morris laid a few long balls in for TDs that had the crowd pretty stirred up.

I think Chech and I have a bet about starting QBs. I'm sticking with Sims from what I saw Saturday.

Thanks for the report, ATU. Good stuff. I guess it's clear as mud who the starter will be. Oh well, they've got 25 days to sort it out.

Sims seems to panic under pressure, Coker has some accuracy issues...  I hope they take a hard look at Morris.

From what I read, it sounds as if this battle is going to be a good one. May the best man win for each game. RTR!

The other reports I see from Sunday only mention three QB's and Morris was not one of them. Coker, Sims and Bateman are the ones I hear about. Morris only got a few snaps at QB in the spring game.

I think it will come down to Coker and Sims. Bateman is being groomed for the future and he has the tools to be a good one.

OK... Let's play "what if".  What if...Sims starts vs. WVA but really struggles in 1st qtr.  Then Coker comes in and looks bad in 2nd qtr, misses open rec's and throws a couple of int's.  Then both of them struggle in the 3rd qtr.  

Defense does the best it can but at start of 4th qtr Bama trails 14 - 9.

So then Bateman comes in for 4th qtr and leads team on two TD drives to win the game.

What then???

Amen.  If we play 3 QBs against WV and none play well, the forum and fanbase will melt down.  That'll end any interest in e-cred bets!

None of these things will happen. The most important thing I saw Sat was C  N  S. Arms spread in that familiar "what the hell was that" gesture, going apoplectic because some guy didn't do his kick-off coverage drill correctly. Getting on his highest ranking coaches. Everything is going to be okay.
