Title: Braves broadcaster Pete Van Wieren dies Post by: pmull on August 03, 2014, 08:16:43 AM I always liked PVW. He was a Braves homer but he had a very good knowledge of the game. Ted Turner launched TBS into the cable TV market billing the hapless Braves as America's team. You could watch baseball everyday and the Braves players and announcers became household names. PVW saw the worst of times and best of times for the Braves during his 33 years.
Quote Longtime Braves broadcaster Pete Van Wieren died Saturday after a long battle with cancer, the team has announced. He was 69 years old. Van Wieren was known as "The Professor" due to his expertly researched knowledge of the game in his time with TBS. He retired after 33 years in the booth in 2008, shortly after the death of his longtime partner and friend, Skip Caray. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24646811/braves-broadcaster-pete-van-wieren-dies-at-age-69 Title: Re: Braves broadcaster Pete Van Wieren dies Post by: 2Stater on August 03, 2014, 02:55:38 PM Very sad.
