Title: Nationals Acting Manager Set to Resign
Post by: Marshal Dillon on June 25, 2011, 09:29:07 PM
This is becoming a real circus. Plus, hiring Davey Johnson, he's got to be pushing 70. Now theres a way to build for the future.

Jack McKeon was 72 when he managed the Marlins to a World Series win. Now Jack is back again as Marlins manager at 80.  So Davey looks young by comparison.  Not sure how old Charlie Manuel is (Philies Manager.)

The Nationals as an organization has so many problems. I was living in DC when the team came, and even in that first season (when they actually had a shot at the playoffs until the last month) it was hard to get the fans to come. Now granted, they played at RFK, but even with the new stadium open they aren't coming. Plus the management is horrendous, and the ownership has not for the most part been willing to sink much money into free agents (with the exception of Jayson Werth, who hasn't exactly lit the league on fire). They are trying to build up the farm system, which is commendable and the right thing to do, but they need to have some talent come in so fan interest doesn't go to zero. Until the Lerners make a commitment to winning by pulling out the checkbook (which they CAN do, from what I understand) and bringing in a manager that is not a stopgap fix, then the Nats will never contend. I honestly don't know how they are winning this year.

Well one thing for sure, they have to have fan support or they can't do anything. They have to have all that big time money to pay the bills. Tickets should drop in price maybe that brings fans in to the park. RTR!

Per ESPN Davey Johnson is the new Nationals manager.
