Yes, I wanted the USA to win today and go all the way at soccer's World Cup. However that would probably turn us into a bigger soccer nation. And I'm tired of reading in British papers that Americans have finally woken up to realizing soccer is the world's best game.  No way.  A recent article said more Americans play soccer than football, basketball or baseball. Really?

Let's keep soccer in perspective.  A great game for youngsters.  But I'll stick with the excitement of football and keep rolling with the Tide. 

No way in he!! soccer is #1 in the US. Looks like someone took some liberties in the British press.

No doubt girls are included in those player numbers.

Still, soccer is so freaking boring to watch.  I only found out the result on CRS.

Right: 1-1. 1-0, 0-0 are typical scores.  The only highlights they show are goals and shots at the goal.  No reviews of what happened between the goals because nobody can remember.

Frankly, I think watching grass grow is more exciting than soccer.  :yawn:

Why watch a 2 hour game which can be recapped in 15 seconds?

In England, it's about getting drunk, getting in fights...

I have to admit I have been more concerned with the Orioles catching Toronto in the AL East than the World Cup. Like OT said, I certainly wanted the U.S. to win, but I am sorry, I just can't get into the sport like some can.

What!! Are you kidding me? Look at all the excitement of a player flopping every 30-45 seconds, screaming bloody murder as if his leg was amputated. The thrill of exciting 1-1, 1-0 blazing shootouts, and
the tension as we wonder when the game will end so we can do something more important like cleaning the toilet.

It's sort of like watching a basketball game where only one or two shots go in the net and you're given one point for each.

To put things in perspective,

• In the last three games of the first knockout round, in the 4.5 hours of regulation play, there were exactly 0 goals scored.
• In the 6 hours of regulation play over the past four games, there were 2 goals scored, and one of those was a guy knocking it into his own goal by accident.
• In the 8 games there were only 3 in which a goal was scored in regulation time
• Of the 16 teams, only 3 scored a goal in regulation time
• 25% of the games were decided by penalty kick after 120 minutes of futile gameplay
• One additional game was decided by a penalty kick, after an oscar winning dive
• Counting all the times the ball went in the net, 11 were real goals in actual play, 1 was a mistake, and 13 were penalty kicks

Shorten the field, make an offsides LINE like hockey. And put people in the penalty box, a la hockey, instead of those stupid yellow cards. Maybe a power play will increase scoring some.

One day while some of the World Cup was on, I actually turned it over and watched a Canadian Football League game. Much more entertaining.  :popcorn2:

Well you missed some outstanding non-stop, pulsating, spine-tingling action. The game with Costa Rica v Netherlands was an overwhelmingly exciting game of 122 minutes with great passes, kicks in the groin, badly missed shots on the goal, and a stupendous 0-0 score. Now be honest, where else can you see such exciting stuff except at midget wrestling, hog calling contests, or Obama in mom jeans.

Well, the riveting FIFA World Cup comes to an end today. At least we have the scintillating Tour de France cycling extravaganza to focus in on next. There are still 12 stages left and some those are really impressive routes through..whah whah, whah whah-whah, .........zzzzz ZZZZZZZZZZ

OK, I confess.  I watch the Tour de France.   :-[

It's the only thing going over the long hot summer, and takes me up to summer football practices.

I just don't see the Tour de France being as exciting to watch now
that everyone won't be chasing the drug smuggler
