I picked Adam Scott in my fantasy golf pic, but I really hope Phil takes it. With everything going on in his life, I would consider him a long shot. He is at -1 early, though.

Norlander and Kuchar are leading at -3.

Brandt Snedeker was -4 after 9 holes. After 14, he is even.  :(

Actually Snedeker birdied #14 to go to -1. Kuchar is alone at the top at -3. Phil is still at -1 and has about an 18 footer for birdie on his 13th hole (actual 4th hole).

Phil just made birdie to go to -2 and one shot off the lead. Kuchar still at -3.

Kuchar bogeyed 16. He and Phil are tied for the lead along with Na and McDowell.

Phil, Kuchar and Na, all bogeyed their next hole to fall to -1. McDowell is in the lead by himself at -2.

McDowell and Na finished their rounds at -2. Spieth is also at -2. A bunch of people at -1, including Phil.

Phil bogeyed 17 and parred 18 to finish at E. Still very much in contention,

Bubba and Adam Scott are playing in the same group and have just teed off on #1.

The golf course is really getting baked this afternoon. Everything is getting faster and the scores aren't as good as this morning. McDowell and Na still leading at -2.

Brooks Koepka  :dunno: makes eagle on #5 to take the lead at -3.

A bunch of people tied for the lead at -2, including Dustin Johnson and Jim Furyk.

I don't think Pinehurst #2 fits Bubba's eye. He's +5 after 12.

Keegan Bradley had the lead briefly at -3, but just bogeyed to join 6 others at -2.

Yeah, it's starting to look like he has nothing to worry about. The tourney could be a good one if they don't let Kaymer run away with it.

From what I saw of the course yesterday I think there will be many lead changes before it is over with, but you never know in the game of golf.

You're absolutely correct. Kaymer, however, has regained his confidence and is playing very good golf again. If he keeps it up, he will be hard to beat.

BTW, the only Bama golfer in the field, that I could find, is Corey Whitsett, who is in as an amateur. He is at +7. I know Michael Thompson has been struggling, but I thought his 2nd place finish in the US Open a couple of years ago would have qualified him. I guess not.

Kaymer picking up where he left off. He's at -8 after 7 holes. Unknown Fran Quinn is 2nd at -4. He is a 49 yr old semi-pro.

This may already be over. Kaymer is 6 strokes ahead of the field.

Kaymer set a 36 hole US Open scoring record. He is lapping the field at -10.

Kudos to Kaymer, that is a very difficult course and to shoot back to back 65 rounds is unbelievable. #+

Very, very impressive. If he doesn't pull a Greg Norman, he will be very hard to beat, even with 2 days left.

The pressure does not start until the weekend. We will see if Kaymer is a man or a mouse. I hope it is not a run away win. They are not fun for us watching on TV. I do not think it will be. I like the Speith kid. He looks like the "real deal" to me.

Unfortunately Phil is done. I wonder if he will ever be in contention on a Sunday in a major again.

Spieth wilted at the end today, but he has immense talent and I wouldn't count him out. I agree with you that it will be boring golf if someone doesn't give Kaymer a challenge. I don't think anyone can play to the level Kaymer has played the last 2 days to catch him. He will have to come back to the field somewhat.

I think Spieth, Snedeker, Kuchar, Scott, McIlroy, Na, Bradley and Henson can give him a run for his money, should he stumble over the weekend.

Does anyone for see a meltdown at this point. I hope he doesn't start playing to not to lose. Play just as he has been. Best of the best to Kaymer. RTR!

I kept thinking Kaymer was going to fall back to the pack but he made clutch putt after putt. He was +2 on the day but he still leads by 5. It is his tournament to win. Unless he falls apart tomorrow he will win this Open easily.

I am disappointed with Pinehurst #2. It is too dry and not enough trouble for a US Open course. I expect tight fairways and deep rough at the US Open. This looks more like a British Open course. Only Kaymer is tearing it up but I do not like the US Open set up this year. Too many players are hitting great shots after bad drives. This is not what I am use to from US Open courses.

It's different, for sure. The greens seem to be what is the most difficult part of play. Many of them are humpback, and if the shot is not perfect, it will roll off the front or back of the green. I, too would rather see club choking rough than the stuff they have there now. It isn't nearly penal enough.

I don't see Kaymer choking. I think he wins it easily today, as long as he doesn't get too conservative. (Playing not to lose rather than playing to win).

I agree 2, I just don't see many that will shoot under par today to make a run at him. I agree with the condition of the course also.

Kaymer laps the field and wins by 8 strokes. Did I hear the announcers right that Eric Compton, who finished tied for 2nd with Ricky Fowler, has had 2 heart transplants?  :o

Yes 2, that is correct and it is one of the most unbelievable stories I have ever heard.They showed some clips from earlier interviews with him today and his outlook on life is amazing. I will always have to pull for him in a tournament.

Compton's story is amazing. He had his first transplant at age 12. He had his second in 2008. He played college coach at Georgia. That was only his second major. He had to qualify to make the field. I had never heard of him before but I will pull for him in the future.

In 2008 he drove himself to the hospital when his first new heart gave out. He made it to the hospital and collapsed.

Absolutely an amazing story. He has another fan in me, as well.
