Title: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: Elephantidae on June 20, 2011, 07:54:50 PM Bud will be playing this week in the Travelers Championship in Connecticut. He received a sponsor invite. I assume the sponsor was impressed with his US Open play.
Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: Jamos on June 21, 2011, 06:12:36 AM When the sponsors start noticing you, there are brighter days ahead. ;)
Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: pmull on June 21, 2011, 08:33:02 AM Things are going pretty good for Bud. He won $18,000.00 at the US Open. He has signed contracts with Titlist and Ian Poulter apparel. He plans to play on the Nationwide Tour, unless more exemptions come his way, and go to Q School next year. Because he made the cut at the US Open he automatically advances to the second round of Q School.
Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: Elephantidae on June 22, 2011, 01:21:04 PM He tees off late on Thursday (just before GC comes on air) and might get some air time on Golf Channel. Earlier tee time on Friday so no airtime but maybe a replay of a highlight.
Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: Elephantidae on June 22, 2011, 01:23:29 PM Bud's also playing in Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational in Columbus in mid-July. All 1st team AA's get in that regardless of current amateur status.
Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: pmull on June 24, 2011, 12:01:54 PM Bud shot -1 yesterday to open the tournament. The projected cut as of now is at -1. It would be great if he could make the cut again this week.

Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: pmull on June 24, 2011, 06:10:32 PM I have been following Bud's round and just noticed another former Bama golfer Michael Thompson is doing even better. He is -8 thru 15 holes. The Tide is well represented in this tournament.

Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: pmull on June 25, 2011, 03:25:54 PM The Cantlay kid isn't lighting it up today, but still tied for the lead. It is a poor field. All the big names must have taken the week off after the Open. Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: pmull on June 25, 2011, 03:31:53 PM Thompson just birdied the par 5 13th to go to -9. He is now tied for 22nd.
Cauley is still -6 thru 15. He is tied for 50th. All the big names must have taken the week off after the Open. True dat, even though there is still some talent there with Watney, Molder, Jacobson, and Mahan. BTW, pmull, I'll be playing Bubba Watson's home course tomorrow, Stonebrook, in Pace, Fl. I played behind him on that course once. If it's just Frank and I, prolly the whites.
Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: pmull on June 25, 2011, 04:06:18 PM Cauley is finished for the day at -6. He is in a tie for 53.
Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: 2Stater on June 25, 2011, 04:07:51 PM He's steady. I hope he progresses well.
Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: pmull on June 25, 2011, 04:11:41 PM He's steady. I hope he progresses well. As a rookie making cuts is important. He still needs to get his card. Because he qualified for the US Open and made the cut he gets to advance to the second round at Q School. That will help. If he can get in a few more tournaments and make the cut he could get his card by being high enough on the money list. Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: pmull on June 25, 2011, 04:14:57 PM If we end up with a foursome, the blues. If it's just Frank and I, prolly the whites. The blues would be about my max. My handicap tells me to play the blues but I enjoy the whites more. I don't like having to hit driver - hybird on every hole. I occasionally want a short iron shot. Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: pmull on June 25, 2011, 04:27:11 PM Thompson just birdied # 17 to go to -10. He is now tied for 14th.
Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: 2Stater on June 25, 2011, 05:22:07 PM Thompson just birdied # 17 to go to -10. He is now tied for 14th. He's in contention now. Yeah, the blues are a bit of a stretch for me. I hit a drive 220-230 when I'm loose and swinging well. Occasionally, I'll hit one 250-260, but rare. What I do well is consistently hit my drives in the fairway with a slight draw, which is good, because I'm always in play. My iron game is ok and my short game is either good or horrible. I live and die by the short game, which most people do. Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: pmull on June 25, 2011, 05:40:38 PM Thompson just birdied # 17 to go to -10. I depend on a lot of 1 putts. I am a low 80's golfer, sometimes better, sometimes worse. Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: Elephantidae on June 25, 2011, 08:35:45 PM Bud is playing with Vijay Singh tomorrow. BTW, another Alabama player, Jason Bohn, missed the cut. Also, Lee Janzen's wife is an Alabama grad and Kevin Streelman's wife is from Tuscaloosa. Streelman is -11 after shooting 63 and Janzen is -2 after a tough 75 today. Lee Janzen's agent is the uncle of the Bama men's golf assistant coach.

My knees usually dictate how well I play (plus how good the beer is); ;D Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: 2Stater on June 26, 2011, 07:45:21 AM Ok, pmull, since you are the better golfer, at least on paper, give me a "Tip for the day" that I can take to the golf course this morning. (Preferrably one pertaining to the short game). If it helps, I'll give you 3 e-creds (an hour apart) when I return. :-*
Title: Re: Bud Cauley receives Sponsor Exemption Post by: pmull on June 26, 2011, 08:01:04 AM Ok, pmull, since you are the better golfer, at least on paper, give me a "Tip for the day" that I can take to the golf course this morning. (Preferrably one pertaining to the short game). If it helps, I'll give you 3 e-creds (an hour apart) when I return. :-* 1. You may do this already. When around the green I use an 8 iron to chip rather than a wedge. Of course this only applies if loft is not required like going over a sand trap. I like to get the ball on the green and left the chip roll out like a putt. I can control the distance better this way. A short wedge shot is easy to "chilly dip". By all means keep you head down. A short chip is the easiest to look up on. 2. Don't make stupid mistakes. If you get in trouble take your medicene and get the ball back in play. Accept a bogey and go to the next hole. Bogeys are OK. You can not over double bogeys. It is easier to give tips to someoe you have seen play. Hope this helps and I will hang up and listen. Have a good round. The 8 iron thing I already do, but with a 7 iron. I hit it like a putt and usually have pretty good results if there is enough green to work with. I'll use an 8 iron today in your honor. I would not change if you are comfortable with a 7 iron. The man that showed me this when I was learning to play recommended the 7 or which ever club you are comfortable with. I like the extra loft the 8 has but that is me. I put it the ball back in my stance, It is easier for me to make solid contact. I don't come up short as much this way. Cauley started slow but birdied 6 out of the last 8 holes. He is tied for 20th. Thompson is having a great day, he is -17 in 2nd place thru 17. There are several people behind him that could pass him on the back nine. The back nine is playing very easy for these pros. Both of these guys are going to bring home a nice check today.
