He holds on to the ball, but not without a groan that can be heard from the sideline of the intramural field at Spring Hill College in Mobile, where the man who may be Alabama's next starting quarterback is throwing darts across the freshly cut lawn.

Jacob Coker comes here twice a week to work out with quarterback coach David Morris as he prepares to join the quarterback competition at Alabama, where he is transferring after spending the last three years at Florida State. The receivers with whom he works here say his throws are coming quicker and quicker every week.

"I can tell he has a little more urgency," says Chris Lewis, an incoming transfer receiver at South Alabama. "It's coming out more accurate. ... My hands are a little sore right now. You could tell, at the end, I started dropping a little." ...

Good article.  Lots about his healing knee and other issues.

Morris says all the tools are there.

"He has one of the strongest arms I've ever been around," he says of Coker. "He's a great athlete. He's a guy that has great feet. He's a guy who can do all the things you want out of a quarterback -- you want him to be accurate, you want him to be a good anticipator, you want him to be strong --€“ he's got all that stuff.

"He's one of the hardest workers I've ever been around. So he's a guy you really get excited about because he's got all the physical stuff but he's also got all the intangibles that you really want."

I'll be very happy if he has a healed knee!

Has there ever been this much anticipation of in incoming player? Expectations are mighty high. I just hope he can deliver.

One ESPN commentator anointed Coker as the most likely player from Bama/Auburn to win the Heisman this year as he leads Bama to another National Championship.

Talk about expectations!   ???
