I guess Saban is pulling his hair out about this. He has preached and preached about making good choices and the negative consequences of bad ones. I know they're kids and kids can make dumb decisions, I certainly did at his age, but the use of illegal drugs in a high profile setting such as U of A is just double dumb.  :dunno:

Interesting question, MD. My guess the coaching staff would not allow it.  That being said, if a kid got disciplined by the coach for using it, I could see a possible lawsuit against the school.

The coaching staff don't allow it now and it is illegal.  Why would you think they wouldn't allow it in a state where it is legal?  ???

Colorado is a favorite destination for college kids on spring break.  No surprise!

If I was a head coach in CO, the last thing I want is my team using marijuana on a regular basis. Just my opinion.

I heard someone talking about this the other day.  The NFL may have to revist their stance on marijuana because of it being legal in Colorado.

Just because something is legal does not mean it has to be allowed within the team rules.  Staying out past midnight is perfectly legal, but the coach can impose a midnight curfew.  Drinking alcohol is legal if you are a certain age, but the coach can make a rule that drinking is not allowed the night before a practice or a game.  Weighing 400 lbs is perfectly legal, but the coach can give a player a weight limit that he must not exceed if he wants to play.  Making a D in a class is not against the law, but the coach can require a minimum GPA to be eligible.  So just because marijuana is legal in certain areas, the coach can still say that it is a violation of team rules and punish accordingly.

A scholarship is a contract between the school and the player, and can have all sorts of provisions and rules that restrict what either side can do.  The same goes for an NFL player with a contract.  If the terms of the contract say that you must abide by team rules and one of the rules is that you can't smoke pot, then anyone who does so has breached the contract and can be kicked off the team, or fired in the case of a pro player.

 #+ Well said SC. So many people have seen the athletes break the rules they think they are entitled to break them also, because they are such great Stars. I think if they do that stuff they have cheated everybody on the and program. They should be made pay back the cost spent on their scholarship or placed in jail till they do. Period! RTR!
