"My dad, kidding around, always called me Cory Reamer," Holcombe said. "He always went out there, and maybe wasn't the biggest or the fastest or the strongest, but he's going to play ball. He knew how to play. That's what I do when I go out there."

Reamer came to Alabama with a similar frame and expectations in 2005. The 6-foot-3, 200 pound freshman from Hoover worked his way into the starting lineup for the 2009 national championship team. He bulked up to 234 pounds by then and made 50 tackles in his final season.

Danny Holcombe, Keith's father and an offensive lineman for Bear Bryant's Alabama teams from 1980-82, watched games with his son with a football eye. Reamer just stood out to him in defenses that included top draft picks like Rolando McClain and Courtney Upshaw.

"When you needed a tackle, he made it happen," Danny Holcombe said. "Maybe he'd just swat it with his arm or whatever it may be, but there was always a running joke, or not really a joke, but I'd tell Keith to 'be a Reamer today.'" ...

Be a Reamer today.   :-*
