Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 25, 2014, 06:45:05 PM
Game starts at 7 pm on ESPN 2. This is a home game and we gotta win it to have any chance for a winning record this year. I wonder if Obasohan is okay?

7-0 LSU. Killing us under the basket, blocking shots, stealing ball, and scoring under their basket. Jacobs & Taylor brought in to handle the size of LSU. Tide shooting 1/6 after Jacobs scores. Taylor blocks shot and we score again, 7-6 LSU.

Tide disintegrating right in front of everyone. MANY turnover/steals caused by pressure of LSU. We had 19 point lead and now trail by 1, 72-71. We led 47-28 but LSU has gone on 44-24 run.

WOW! What a finish. We did not play very good in the second half but we had some guys step up in the last few minutes. That was a good win for the Tide.

Hale and Cooper had great games.

This is what we have been missing, 3 legitimate scorers in a game to keep the other team off-balance. Hale is the real deal, Cooper will probably score 3 points in the next game.

Glad we won this one, but that seems to be a common thread, Tide falling apart in second half.  Is it a conditioning or adjustments issue?

Maybe Grant listened to Coach Knight, getting Hale more involved.

Good win for the Tide.

IMO conditioning is not an issue for us. LSU came back in the 2nd half because their big guys controlled the paint. They had foul trouble in the 1st half and OBIII and another post player sat on the bench while we built a 13 point lead. In the 2nd half their big guys scored with ease. They also went to the press and it gave us fits. Releford was our only ball handler with Obasohan out. Key struggled and turned the ball over several times. In past games with 2nd half collapses teams decide to shut Releford down and no one stepped up to score points. Last night we had 4 guys with 14 or more. Jacobs had 8.

The box score had the attendance listed as 12601. It was a good crowd that got loud at times. It looked much better on TV than empty seats.

Jamos where are you? We need a court side report.

The refs had a lot to do with the complextion of the game as well. They were calling touch fouls in the first half and then started to let them bang each other in the second half as LSU applied the press and that is LSU's style of play. A lot of their points were made possible by plays that would have been fouls in the first half. LSU has some good athletes though and can shoot the threes.

Thanks.  Amazing how often teams in bb get far behind during the 1st half, then storm back in the 2nd.  The refs play a HUGE role (as does motivation, coaching, and conditioning).

Good to get a win.

The first half was played well.  Inside pressure by BAMA led to reboiunds and made shots.

BAMA finished the first half 2/5 from the three line.  Hit 3 in a row early in the second half and then made 3 more during the course of the game.  BAMA finished 8/16 for the game.  Their largest sustained lead of the game (1st half) occurred when they shot the fewest amount of threes.

-5 in rebounds, but LSU is one of the better rebounding teams in the NCAA.

11 of BAMA's 14 turnovers came during the second half.

Sometimes you just need to be able to hang-on for a win.

I didn't get to see the first half, but what is did see was Bama hitting outside shots.  They didn't try to take it all the way to the basket and hit the pull up jumper.
also on many of the 3 point shots they were ready to shoot when they caught the ball, not looking to drive first.  I alos thought the foul on the 3 pt shot by LSU should have been a no call.

The three's we hit were not desperate throw it up at the end of the shot clock. We had good ball movement and got it to the open man who was often wide open and ready to catch and shoot.

R.  C.  S. is a nice way to play basketball. If you don't you can not win a lot of games. This what we need to be practicing everyday I believe.

After the LSU win our RPI is 88 with a SOS of 2.

We need to beat the barn this week or our RPI will take a huge hit.

Auburn is terrible, but they were terrible last year and beat us on their court after we built a good lead. We went stone cold in the 2nd half of that game. We need to win this game on the road to gain some momentum.

That SOS will help us get in if we can get our RPI into the 60's and are playing well at selection time.

I think the key to making the NCAA is going 10-8 in SEC play at a minimum. That would give us a regular season record of 16-15. Regardless of our SOS and RPI we need a winning record for even the NIT.
