Title: SEC Opener At Home vs Vanderbilt (8:00 ESPNU) Post by: pmull on January 07, 2014, 01:13:42 PM A big game vs Vandy tonight in Tuscaloosa. We have to win these home games and hope to steal a road win or two. I hope we have a good crowd at the game. The students should be back on campus.
Quote Alabama will play its first Southeastern Conference contest of the season when it hosts the Vanderbilt Commodores on Tuesday at 8 p.m. CT on ESPNU. This will mark the lone contest between the Tide and Commodores this season and will mark the 133rd meeting between the longtime rivals. Tuesday night's contest will be televised on ESPNU, with Joe Davis (play-by-play) and Dino Gaudio (analyst) on the call. The game can also be heard on the Crimson Tide Sports Network, with Chris Stewart (play-by-play) and Bryan Passink (analyst) calling all the action. http://www.rolltide.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/010614aad.html Title: Re: SEC Opener At Home vs Vanderbilt (8:00 ESPNU) Post by: Jamos on January 07, 2014, 05:43:35 PM Hopefully some of their second half effort from the last game will spill over to this game tonight and things will be better for them. :dunno:

You're the one who was dancing.:facepalm: I think we're good though. I started watching when we were down 16-14. I wasn't watching during the 9-3 Vandy run, got back in time to see Obasohan's 3 pointer for the 66-60 lead. I think that makes me a lucky charm, which is what some of boating/fishing buddies claim. ;D Title: Re: SEC Opener At Home vs Vanderbilt (8:00 ESPNU) Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 07, 2014, 10:02:55 PM Tide 66-60 with :25 left. Title: Re: SEC Opener At Home vs Vanderbilt (8:00 ESPNU) Post by: pmull on January 08, 2014, 08:16:12 AM We pick up a good win to start the SEC season. This is not your typical Vandy team. They are not very good this year but they play hard and are well coached. Any SEC win is a good win.
Alabama started the game slow and finished a little tentative but the middle 20 minutes was excellent basketball. We shot the ball well and had a little better ball movement. Releford had 16, Hale 15, Obasohan 15, Randolph 11 and Jacobs 8. That is good scoring distribution. Hale is getting better each game. We out scored Vandy 30-26 in the paint. We played good defense most of the night. Our defense leads to offense. We had 17 points off turnovers to Vandy's 8. Vandy turned the ball over 16 times to our 8. Vandy is the worst free throw shooting team in the league but they come to our place and go 15-17. We continue our recent trend of struggling from the line going 12-19. We are still the SEC's best free throw shooting team. Somehow Vandy out rebounded us 32-25. It could be because we took more shots than them due to turnovers. Some of their rebounds also gave off missed free throws. During the game I thought we were killing them on the boards so I am happy with our rebounding last night. Overall this was a good team win which we needed very bad. We get a chance to pick up a road win this Saturday when we travel to Athens to play Georgia. This is one of our best chances to get a road win. UGA is in a down cycle and their coach is on the hot seat. Miss State was leading Kentucky at the half in Lexington before getting killed in the second half.
UGA had a 6-6 record going into the Mizzou game with a SOS of 266. They are not very good but even auburn plays above their head once in awhile. That is a good win for them . It will make us look better if we can beat them Saturday. |
