Title: Basketball: Robert Morris at Alabama (4:30 CSS)
Post by: pmull on January 04, 2014, 02:18:23 PM
Alabama needs this game very bad. A win will have them finish the non conference portion of the season with a 6-7 record. The team needs a little confidence building win heading into SEC play Tuesday night against Vandy.

Quote
he Alabama men's basketball team will play its first game of 2014 and its final non-conference match-up of the regular season when it hosts the Robert Morris Colonials on Saturday evening. The Tide and Colonials, who will meet on the hardwood for the first time in series history, are set to tip off at 4:30 p.m. CT.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!!!! Robert Morris is leading Tide at the half 23-20. They are 5-9 on the season. The announcers are totally depressed and lifeless. Incredible.

Enstrom has been better. 8 points, 3 blocks, but only 2 rebounds. He's 7'2" and has to do better on the boards. Tide 54-48, 2:30 left.

Tide 64  Robert Morris 56  FINAL

This should have been an easy, practice game but we had to fight & claw to win.

11/21 FT's
16      Turnovers
11      Assists
5/14   3 pointers
28      Rebounds
24/44  FG's

Gonna be a long, frustrating season.

We start SEC play Tuesday at home against Vandy. Then we go on the road to UGA and back home against Miss State. We have a good chance to start the SEC 3-0. We have have a long way to go but I still think we could be a good team.

We played much better in the 2nd half. We scored 20 points in the 1st half with 10 of those points coming in the last 4 minutes. We scored 44 points in the 2nd half. Defensive pressure lead to several easy baskets.

We out rebounded RM 29-23. We got 7 offensive boards to their 4. Engstrom played a very good game. He had 8 pts, 5 rebounds (3 off), 2 blocks and only 1 foul in 25 minutes. He cause RM problems under the basket. It was good to see big Carl have a good game.

Free throws were terrible at 11 of 21. We are the best FT shooting team in the league at 72% so I think we just had a bad night. We shot 54% for the game due to 64% 2nd half. The zone caused us fits again in the 1st half.

Releford was solid again with 18 pts. Obasohan had 12 but missed at least 2 easy lay ups. Hale started and got 7 pts and 5 rebounds in 21 minutes. He is getting better each game. It looks to me like Hale is adjusting to college ball faster than Taylor.

I do not believe the announce crowd size of 10,125. It looked on TV to be one of the smallest crowds I can remember. Hopefully that will change next week with students back on campus and SEC play starting.

We open SEC play with a very favorable first three games with Vandy at home on Tuesday, UGA on the road and Miss State at home. We need to take advantage of the schedule and win those three games because it gets difficult after that.

All in all it was a win we had to have. The team played hard and over came a bad 1st half.

I really hope the guys can use this as a spring board to go into conference play and get a win streak going.
