Title: Phil Robertson's suspension by A&E
Post by: bama57 on December 19, 2013, 08:39:26 AM
Sarah Palin was one of many “Duck Dynasty” fans to take to social media after news hit that Phil Robertson had been indefinitely suspended by A&E following his controversial statements about homosexuality in an interview with GQ Magazine.

Palin took to Facebook to voice her reaction, charging that the suspension is an attack on freedom of speech.

 Here's Jindal's full statement:

"Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana. The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with. I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV. In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive. But I also acknowledge that this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views. In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended."

I agree with Jindal and Sarah. I've never watched Duck Dynasty but Robertson has the right to voice his opinion and I have the right to boycott A&E. But everyone needs to understand, there is a war against Christianity in the media and right now the wrong side is winning.

I read that you are indefinitely suspending Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty after he quoted the Bible and said that the homosexual act is sinful. I get it, guys. I do. You punished the Christian guy for being a Christian because you got some angry emails from a bunch of whiny gay activists who lack the spine and maturity to deal with the fact that there are still people out there who have the guts to articulate opinions that they find disagreeable. In so doing, you’ve kowtowed to a pushy minority of vocal bullies who don’t even watch your channel, while alienating the fan base of the one show that keeps your entire network afloat.

Makes sense.

Last night I made the decision to indefinitely suspend A&E from my TV.  It is now on my blocked channels list.

From what I heard, Phil was quoting/paraphrasing the bible.  Apparently it is "hate speech" to quote the bible, if the bible is pointing out something that you like to do is not the best way to live (according to God, not man).

I saw a segment about this on the Kelly File last night.  They had a guy on there that said he was gay and Jewish, and was very upset that his "lifestyle" was characterized as sinful.  I guess he has never read Leviticus.  If he thinks Phil was hateful, I wonder what he would think about Moses, if the two ever met.

I have some friends that are gay.  I don't judge them, nor do I look down upon them.  I simply do not agree with some of the things they do.  If they were to ask me my opinion, there would be nothing wrong with pointing out that, according to the bible, the gay lifestyle is a sin.  That is pretty much what happened with Phil from what I understand.  He probably could have articulated his message a little better though.

We all commit sins in some fashion (although I don't have any problems with this particular one).  It's no different than any other sin, like stealing a piece of bubble gum from the candy store when you were a kid.  We have all sinned, and if you have sinned then you need Jesus.  The fundamental problem here is that a lost world does not want to acknowledge their sins or accept the gift of Christ because they like their sins and don't want to give them up.  Anyone else who points out that what they do is a sin is labeled an intolerant bigot, in an attempt to keep their head in the sand and continue pretending that it is OK.

Phil used 1 Corinthians Chapter 6 to support his stance.

Quote
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Well the Bible actually tells us this going to happen. We as Christians sat on our back side and did nothing. God changed a lot of things by miracles but man had to make a step toward this. What a&e is doing is wrong. They are showing hate for Christians but they have freedom of speech and we do not. I will not watch this channel until he is put back on but I also say some other channel will pick this show up because of the high ratings. God Bless the Robertson family. RTR!

I don't watch Duck Dynasty, but this story has struck a nerve with me.  As a Christian, it would not be the loving thing to do to sit idly and say nothing while people do what the Bible expressly condemns. Yet, acting in a loving way and pointing out the sinfulness of homosexuality is labeled as offensive and hateful.  Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.  I'm afraid we're becoming (in general) a society that is too concerned about hurting people's feelings and is not concerned enough for saving people's souls.  When Jesus told the rich young ruler to sell everything he had and give it to the poor, the rich young ruler didn't go away rejoicing and with his self-esteem boosted.  It wasn't what the ruler wanted to hear, but it was what he needed to hear.

We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E's decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Phil would never incite or encourage hate.We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued support of our family.

I'll say first off that DD is about my favorite show on what little
TV I watch ...

I haven't been watching that long and really only stated after
Paul Ott Carruth told me about the show a few months ago

I started watching and liked it ... I'm just not much on reality TV watching
but this show was different from the other reality shows I didn't like
not because of the redneck antics they pull or blowing stuff up or
shooting guns off or what not
but instead the cleanliness and humble way they conduct themselves with
God being their guiding light ...

I've been waiting on this to happen , something told me it would
call it this screwed up world we are living in or whatever but I figured
this would happen pretty soon and it did ...

one thing good to see is all the people that are supporting Phil and Family
I just saw that UnderArmour , their major sponsor is sticking with them
that's great , I've never bought UnderArmour before because of their
Auburn connection but that will change now ...

I was just in Walmart , last week every aisle had DD stuff on it
this week I saw nothing DD in the places I saw it before
did they pull the DD stuff off the shelves ? anyone know ?
if so I'll stop shopping there , that's a fact

I Pray for Phil and his Family
and I wish there were something more I can do to help them

but this I know , if Phil quoted from the Bible it's in there
and it's a shame he is being attacked for doing it ...

God Bless them at DD and the ones that are attacking them

it's a sad day in the USA folks ... and that's right ,
the wrong side is winning ...

I really hope everyone else on the show tells A&E to shove it, then again A&E would probably enjoy something being shoved. I'm so tired of the double standard in this country, where the flagrantly offensive protesting of the Westboro Baptist Church is tolerated, but the word of God is not.

What the heck has happened to the country that was founded on Christian beliefs. The 2 biggest literary writings needed to sustain the country that we are, the Bible and the U.S. Constitution, have been kicked to the curb. If things don't change, our country will be kicked to the curb.

Quote
We're told A&E CEO Nancy Dubuc felt she could not  in good conscience ask gay employees to kill themselves for a show when he disrespected them by calling them sinners.

Our sources say ... gay employees involved in the production -- and there are a number of them -- were outraged by Phil's comments to GQ and wanted Dubuc to give him the ax.

We're told Dubuc felt this way ... If Phil had made similar comments about African Americans or Jews ... there would have been a public outcry for his head.  She felt it was just plain wrong not to have the same sense of indignation when the comments were directed at gays.

Our sources say GLAAD was heavily involved in lobbying the network to 86 Phil, and they had an impact.

disrespected the gays by calling them sinners ? really ?
but Phil calls himself a sinner too ...

these people are just looking for a fight
and oh' how I wish the Christians would take it to them
verbally of course , that's what they do , cry to the liberal news media

Sheen claims he's decided to get involved because Robertson's comments 'hurt' many of his gay friends.
'You have offended and hurt so many dear friends of mine, who DO NOT have the voice or the outreach that I do,' Sheen begins in the letter.
'Your statements were and are abhorrently and mendaciously unforgivable,' he added.

right to say it."

now it's not exactly the way you see things, though, is it, liberals?
