Henceforth, everyone on CRS must incorporate the name "Saban" within their name.
Exception is 2.  Nobody can be be called "Saban II", "Saban too", or "2 Saban or not".

I read or heard something several days ago that the extension involved paying him something like $2 mil a year as a consultant after he retires. The extension would be for 5 years.

No way would he take off after API and their new coach got us.  He has that unfulfilled goal of dominating that other school.

I bet Jimmy Sexton loves to see the regular season end each year. He's probably the one who starts all these rumors in the first place.

Finebaum doesn't play that game and he rips guys who do. I have been listening to him a long time & he is very careful with his "inside" info.

Battle has no strong statement about Saban staying.

Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron says he doesn't believe coach Nick Saban will leave for Texas.

''To me, he's not leaving. That's my personal opinion,'' McCarron said Wednesday. ''I can't speak on Coach Saban. I stay out of his business. But if I had a pick, I'd say he's not leaving.''

CNS is out recruiting for Alabama. Keep in mind there is a limited amount of time allowed to recruit before the dead period begins. The dead period starts on 12/16. I do not expect any news on CNS contract being signed or agreed to until at least then. His focus will turn to bowl practice at that time. If he is human Christmas with his family will consume some of his time. His contract may not be addressed until after the bowl game.

Recruiting dead periods:
Dec 16 - Dec 19
Dec 23 - Jan 3
Jan 13 - Jan 16
Feb 3 -  Feb 6

True, but let's not bury our heads in the sand (a metaphor  :lol2: ).
Coach Saban's representative is listening to the UT offer before negotiating his UA contract.  The offer will be interesting; hope we hear what it is!

Cameron Robinson is a 5 star Off Tackle from West Monroe, LA who committed to Bama a few weeks ago.

Amen you men hang in there. Your right Cameron they want him to go to Texas but when he is coaching in Spring they will have somewhere else they are toying with. When you have a fabulous coach you have Great lies to follow. I saw them on FOX 6 this morning at noon Mickey said he was going to Texas. lol RTR!

I agree that Sexton is using rumors to garner the best contract for his client.

But,  I have been wondering about the realationship bettween CNS and Battle. Is there a negative undercurrent there? Do the two get along well? If there are issues,  I think the BOT would cut Battle loose before allowing a problem to fester between Saban and Battle.

Lots of speculation.

There is so much crap fed to us during the offseason.  Writers and sports announcers do anything to keep our attention.  I'm not buying the hype; Coach Saban is just a man being offered a job.

I'll let this crap pass by and await the games.  I barely can stomach the speculation and panic.  My suggestion is that you just try to enjoy Alabama football.  Let the lawyers do the worrying.

"I messed with Coach, [saying] he's getting too old to start up again somewhere else," McCarron said on ESPN's "College Football Daily" from Walt Disney World. "He told me he's not leaving. And I know Miss Terry [Saban's wife] well enough; she runs that house. And she's not allowing Coach to leave either. I think he'll be at the University of Alabama for a little while."

It seems odd to me that CNS would try to leverage an offer from UTx to get 'more' from Bama.  He could get just about anything he wants just by asking for it.  Whatever, at some point fairly soon he is going to have to sign the Bama contract (or not), and have to tell UTx clearly and finally 'no'  (or not.)

I do wonder if CNS is delaying to mess with the press and let the delusional UTx folks get way out on a limb.

There is another player in this drama that gets seldom mentioned, and that's Bill Battle.  Don't think he wants to go down in history as the AD who let CNS leave.

It kinda tickles me that this whole thing is giving us a lot of free publicity and taking the focus off FSU/AUBARN.I think that if CNS thought him not signing the contract was hurting the University of Alabama or our recruiting class he would have already signed!

Title: Re: "Report: Saban, 'Bama in talks for an extension"
Post by: bamaphil on December 13, 2013, 09:52:13 AM
Even if he's not ready to sign the contract it does seem odd to me that he wouldn't come out and say forcefully that he's fully committed to Alabama and has no plans to take any other job.

Perhaps there is some benefit in having ESPN talk about him as the premier coach in college football, but it's not like the recruits don't already know that.

was it last year or a couple of years ago he let a contract sit on his desk while he was focusing on recruiting. or a bowl game?

He isn't intentionally delaying for some strategic reason.  It is pretty simple.  Contracts are clutter.  He will get to it when all of the other more important things are taken care of.  Also, he has been asked about this a million times this year.  He is tired of trying to convince all of those pot stirring reporters that he isn't going anywhere.  CNS does things on his own timetable according to his process, and right now the process dictates flying around in a helicopter and talking to recruits.
