Entering her senior season, Whitney Larsen knew she would be called upon to be a leader for the University of Alabama softball team. So she enlisted an expert to help show her how.

Larsen called upon Duane Lamb, a retired Air Force colonel who works in the UA athletic department. Lamb had spoken to the team last fall, and Larsen contacted him about leadership traits that might could be applied to her role on the softball team.

"His major point was that you have to lead from the front," Larsen said.

It is amazing how versitile a career officer's (ret'd) resume is, and how valuable to business or in this case an athletic depatment.

Roll Tide to our softball team!

She has handled the leadership role EXTREMELY well, she and Dunne will be greatly missed next year.

Whitney is a  very good shortstop, hitter and leader. She has been fun to watch during her time with the Tide. She plays hard. It would be nice to see her and Kelsi Dunne go out with a NCAA Championship.

Whitney will be missed next year.
