Title: Alabama/Oklahoma BB Game
Post by: Marshal Dillon on November 08, 2013, 04:35:57 PM
Alabama is playing Oklahoma in basketball right now. Tide leading 29-26 with 7:00 left in first half. I just got home and the game is on Direct TV 649 Sports South HD.

Tide has gone stone cold and turning the ball over. Oklahoma 32-31 over Tide.

Releford on bench with 3 fouls. Sooners have 9 more shots than Tide. Sooners playing with more energy right now. Timeout, 4 minutes left in half.

Obasohan gets HIS 3rd foul. Both our point guards are riding the bench, now. OU 34 Tide 33.

Freshman Taylor (6'10") playing post for Tide. Key now the point guard, I guess. Key scores Tide 39      OU 38.

We had them 26-10 early before we started getting in foul trouble.

This new guy, Key, has looked pretty good.

Bama 41-40 at the half.

Oklahoma ends half with a 30-12 run, Tide leads 41-40 at half. We had the ball with 28 seconds left and found a way to botch it and had JACOBS have to take a 3 points shot with about a second left. Grant has to quit being so conservative when we have the last shot opportunity. I have seen this too many times n the past under Grant.

I'm not able to get it here. Are the fouls legit, or are they ticky tack?

Typical type fouls we are known for getting, reach-in, due to our aggressive hand defense and trying to create turnovers.

Explain how a guy can lower his shoulder and push you as you are giving ground and the foul is on you?

Key may be the real deal. He has 18 points. Tide shooting 9-24 in 2nd half. OU 75 Tide 66, 1:45 left.

Same story can't shoot from the outside.

Bingo!! Too many fouls, poor outside shooting, and poor perimeter shooting defense. Same story, different chapter. Something is not right at Alabama & Coach Grant. I will be watching intently all season.

I hated the way this game was called. I know the ref's are told to call the game tighter this year but this game was not called equal both ways. Oklahoma was allowed to be be much more physical than us IMO and it took us out of our game. This will go down as a neutral court game but it was an Oklahoma home game as far as I could tell. OU got all the calls. The announcer was a former OU coach.

This was not the same team that played West Georgia. I think we have a lot of potential. We have to rebound better. Taylor and Hale look like freshmen. Algie Key looks like an All-SEC player. He had 18 points I think. He looked solid to me. Randolph is back. He played most of the game. He was rusty but he will be OK. Releford sitting out 50% of the game in foul trouble was the difference in winning and losing.

Oklahoma was an NCAA Tourny team last year. I am not getting my hopes for a good year down on this one game. With a few breaks we could and should have won this game.

We play Texas Tech at home next week and I look for that game to jump start our season.

Well, I had to dig deep into ESPN to find the final, which was 82-73 Oklahoma, but it would appear they played better than against WG. It's pretty obvious that this team needs to grow and develop some team chemistry, but a 9 point loss to a pretty good team is not the end of the world. Let's see how they improve from game to game.

This just in: Duke appears to be really good.

I have to agree with you about the refs. When Bama jumped out to that early big lead it didn't take long for the refs to warm up their whisles. Bama needs to spend all next week learning how to rebound because they sure don't know how or they're not doing what they have been taught. Nitpicky fouls and no rebounding was the difference in this game. I did see some bright spots though and I think the team might have more depth than I originally thought.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a game called this poorly.  Bama had a big lead and all the momentum early in the game, and then the refs pulled out their whistles on what seemed to me to be non-contact.  Invisible.  Suddenly Releford is on the bench with three fouls.  And a travelling call that didn't make sense.  Then Obasohan gets three quick fouls and is on the bench.  That completely took the wind out of Bama's sails.  I was so frustrated with the officiating that I skimmed through the second half, so I don't know if it was called the same, but Bama didn't appear to get the lead again.

Randolph was back but was still very rusty.  His shooting hasn't improved, and he didn't have the same defensive effort.  He was wearing a knee brace.  Releford was magic early until he got into foul trouble.  Obasohan played well too.  Jacobs has slimmed down and looks to be in shape.  But the biggest revelation was Key, who more than fills the shoes of Lacey, with his ability to attack the basket.  I think this Bama team has a lot of potential; they would have won this game if the refs let them play.

It was a tight game for most of the 2nd half. We lead by one at the half. The lead went back and forth with neither team getting ahead by more than 3 until OU hit a few three's late to pull ahead.

During the game I felt like we were getting killed on the boards. The stats show it almost dead even. We had 37 rebs to OU's 38. We had 15 off rebs to OU's 17. OU got too many tip ins and easy buckets but that happens when one team gets to play physical and the other can't. Jacobs and Cooper had 10 rebs each.

This was a winnable game. However I think we played well and the West Georgia game was a fluke.

I am real excited about Algie Key. He had 20 points. He was 7 of 8 from the field and 6 of 7 from the line. He does not replace Lacey's outside shooting but he is a scorer and I think he will be more consistent.

Thanks for the summary.  I had a poker tournament to go to, so I just skimmed the recording of the second half.  The team started out strong, and then (as my wife likes to say), "Someone peed in their Wheaties."
