I suspect neighborhood kids. If it wasnt sabotage perhaps something associared with a buried line in the area. If you look at the top of the hole it you can see what could have been an old trench. Also guess that some rocks would have been blown in half, leaving "clean" edges exposed. Still no response from my Jersey guy.
