The Tigers used 6 pitchers to combine for a 1 hit shut-out 1-0 win. Boston broke up the no hitter with a hit in the 9th. Tigers pitching had 17 strike outs. Game 2 will be tonight at Fenway.

The Cards beat the Dodgers 1-0 earlier in the day. First time in playoff history there were two 1-0 games on the same day. The Cards take a 2-0 lead in the series. They will play Game 3 on Monday in LA.

This could be some kind of World Series this year, all four of these teams are very good.

I love October baseball. All four teams left could win it. The pitching this year has been outstanding.

The Sox are getting their butts handed to them. In 15 innings of play so far, they have 1 hit. I don't understand why Buchholtz was left in so long. Detroit was teeing off on him and are up 5-0. Not looking good for Boston.  :facepalm:

Congrats to Boston for an amazing comeback. I only wish I'd stayed up to watch it happen.

What a game! The Red Sox came back with a 8th inning grand slam and a 9th inning walk off RBI single to win 6-5.

Tiger pitching had held the BoSox to 1 hit for 14 innings in the series. In the 6th the Tigers got 4 runs to take what looked to be a huge lead at 5-0. Former Bama player Alex Avila hit a 2 run HR for his 3rd RBI of the night.

The Red Sox woke up in the bottom of the 6th getting a couple of hits and their first run in the series. In the 8th with the top of the line up coming to the plate the BoSox loaded the bases and Big Papi hit a Grand Slam to tie the game and then won it in the 9th.

If you have watched the BoSox this year no one has keep their bats quiet like the Tigers did for a game and a half. It was just a matter of time before they got going.

The series is tied 1-1. They will take Monday off and play Game 3 in Detroit on Tuesday.

Anyone that turned off the game and went to bed missed a fantasic finish.

Red Sox beat the Tigers 1-0 to take a 2-1 series lead. Lackey pitched 6 2/3 and got the win. Three relievers finished off the shutout. The BoSox only got 4 hits but one was a solo HR by Napoli.

The pitching on both sides have been terrific in this series. Two of the three games ended with a 1-0 score.

I hate I missed it. Another very busy day. Looks like it was a good one.

Verlander pitched a great game but got zero run support. Sounds like the 1990's Braves with Smoltz, Glavine, & Maddox.

Verlander did pitch a good game. So did Lester for the BoSox in game one. Like I said terrific pitching so far in this series.

Boston could not get the Tigers out in the 2nd. Tigers lead 5-0. It is early. Boston still has time but they dug a pretty deep hole.

I'm not a Tigers fan normally, but the fact they could play the Cardinals in the World Series is a fascinating concept for me. My first World Series was when I was a young teenager in 1968. It was the Cardinals vs. the Tigers. A fantastic series featuring great pitching, hitting, fielding, clutch hitting, & overall excitement.

MD, the BoSox and Tigers had a great series in 1967.

The Tigers were too much for the Sox last night. Big game for both teams tonight.

Here's hoping the Dodgers still have some life left in them.

I'm confused, the Tigers & Red Sox play in the AL. The Cards beat the Red Sox in the 1967 World Series. Yaz won the Triple Crown in 1967 & Jim Lomberg of the Sox won the Cy Young.

I am hoping for a Dodger - BoSox World Series.

Right now I think the Dodgers are in troble. That was a good win yesterday but winning two in St Louis will not be easy.

Even though the series is tied 2-2 the Tigers pitching has been outstanding. I did not think anyone would shut down the Boston bats but they have.

No I'm the one that is confused. I meant the BoSox and Cards had a great series in 1967. I typed Tigers by mistake. I guess because I was watching the Sox and Tigers play at the time. Not to mention I am having nightmares about Tiger pitching right now.

I had forgotten about the 1967 World Series until I had to think about it. The Cards would be a  fascinating matchup against the Tigers or the Red Sox. Their meeting would probably bring out some of those baseball stars of yesteryear. I think Yaz, Gibson, Lolich, Carlton, Kaline, McClain (probably in jail), McCarver, & Brock are still alive but not sure about the rest, like Flood, Cash, Northrup, Shannon, Horton, etc.

Wow. That was a close. We are heading back to Boston with a 3-2 lead.

This has been a great series. Two very good evenly matched teams. Four of the five games have been 1 run games. Pitching by both teams have been outstanding.

Agreed. This has been one of the best pitched series I have seen in quite a while. I heard today that Scherzer could be on the market at the end of the season. He was one year left on his contract, and after next season, I guarantee he is going to be commanding some major bucks unless he just tanks it next year.

St. Louis smoked the Dodgers tonight, 9-0, to advance to the world series.   #+

Well I'll be rooting for St. Louis.  I've been to games in both the old and new stadiums.  Never been to Detroit or Boston.

The Tigers were a lot tougher than I thought they would be. it a grand Slam in game 2 and another last night to get past them.

The BoSox and Cards should be a good World series. They have met 3 times before with the Cards winning in the 40's and 1967. Boston won in 2004.

Thanks to the American League All-Star win we start the series in Boston.

The World Series starts Wednesday night in Boston. Neither team has announced their starting pitchers yet.

I have never liked the Cardinals. I hope Boston takes 4 straight.

I have a dear friend who loves the Cardinals, and he also loves LSU.
He'll get a phone call from me this week so I can tease him about LSU's loss to Ole Miss and congratulate him on the upcoming World Series.
I like Boston, especially when they play NY.  Guess I'll cheer for Boston.  Shhh! Don't tell him.  :lol2:
