Title: Yeldon suspended for 1st qtr
Post by: bama87 on September 20, 2013, 03:42:22 PM
The throat slashing got him a 1st qtr suspension.

In reality, that is silly. What next, a suspension for the first kick-off?

I trust CNS to handle this appropriately.

With the depth we have at running back, he could be 3rd or 4th string by the time we get to the 2nd Qtr.

That is more than most coaches would do.

It was very selfish and uncalled for. I think it should be the 1st half but whatever CNS thinks is what is best for the team. I like that he issued a public apology through the school this week.

I was disappointed in Yeldon. He has been very level headed up to that point. That crap is uncalled for and should not be tolerated.

CNS was pretty upset about what TJ did , especially after the players
were told not to do anything like that before hand ...

I'm surprised that is all TJ got after hearing CNS last night on the radio
talk about it ... I kind of thought he may not play this week ...
glad he is in the line up , hope he learned from this though ...

Guess Coach Saban didn't see Vinnie do it, eh?

Keep in mind that the starters will likely be done at halftime, so that 2nd Qtr is probably all he will get to play this week.

I'm with hscoach on this one.  At most schools nothing would have happened.

I expected Saban to start someone other than Yeldon this week, but I'm surprised he made it official.

So, we should be like most schools and not set a higher standard? Maybe, be more like LSU or Penn State?

I think that is the point that everyone is making, MD. I think everyone is agreeing that CNS is doing the right thing, when others are not.

You could be right and I'm too thick-headed to see it. It just seems so insignificant but some would say it's better than nothing, maybe they are right. Oh well, not the first time I could be wrong.

IMO, against a 40 point underdog, a 1st qtr suspension is basically the same as not doing anything.  I would have no problem with him being suspended for the entire game...

This is not a major violation of team rules we are talking about, just a moment of stupidity -- and at least his head was in the right place -- WINNING -- at the time.  We can't expect team sanctions every time someone gets a personal foul.  Yeldon is a competitor; that's a good thing.

That's why I expected something less official, like someone else starting the game.  Making it official IS the punishment in my opinion.  And I think the punishment fits the offense.

I have no problem with this. TJ made a big mistake that he has to learn from, and I think sitting out a quarter is probably sufficient to do that. It does make me wonder, though, how Johnny Autograph is able to escape the unsportsmanlike call when he seems to constantly break that rule. Perhaps someone with better knowledge of that particular rule could enlighten.

My point was CNS did do something.  How many coaches have you seen do nothing at all?  As far as thr severity of this penalty, how many times has TJY caused any problem?  Also, what if KD starts and is hot?  This suspension could turn into more.

I sure wish we could get to where we don't do these things because we all know your going to get caught. RTR!

And I expect KD to take full advantage of this opportunity to try to trade Yeldon for his spot in the dog house.  KD has been in there for a while, and this is his big chance to redeem himself and show that he is ready to step into the starting rotation.  With the talent we have at the position, getting yourself in the dog house is serious if you want to see the field.

TJ's actions were directed to the Aggie Fans.  That, or your opponents, will get you penalized.  When Manziel does the money sign, it is something his teammate came up with, and  it is teammates celebrating together which is allowed.

Yeah, I see now. Too bad. I wish he would get penalized for it.
