Title: University of Alabama trustees approve $30 million baseball stadium overhaul Post by: pmull on September 17, 2013, 01:20:30 PM This is long over due. A $30M upgrade should put us among the best baseball facilities in the country.
Quote While the project is being touted as a renovation, due to plans to retain the existing site and basic structures, the $30 million project is expected to give the complex an entire face-lift. Trustees said an alternate location was considered but it was decided the current location is ideal with it's close proximity to other athletics facilities like Coleman Coliseum and the Mal M. Moore Athletic Facility. According to the Board proposal, the current facility "does not meet current standards and training methods and does not have sufficient space to support equipment and other function need." Alabama players will enjoy all new facilities, including a new locker room, weight room, bullpen and four new batting cages. I have always liked the location so I am glad they are going to renovate/rebuild in the same location. I can not wait to see the new facility when it is finished.

The astronomical success and the $$$$ generated has to help with all of the facelifts around the campus. Not only that but it is good for the city. I grew up there and I hardly recognize the place when I come home. Don't under estimate the financial backing of the Alabama power brokers. The athletic facility improvements was started by Mal Moore in 2002. The success of the football program has added to coffers but most of the facility upgrades have been donations. Mal Moore did many great things for the university but he will be remembered most for his fund raising, facility upgrades and hiring Coach Saban. Mal Moore really did a lot of great things for this program in his tenure. I do like to see that he built it well so that Battle can motor right along and pick up where he left off.
