Title: "Clowney’s Turkey Avocado Wrap"

Jadeveon Clowney was among several players from USCe and Clemson who were named on a restaurant menu.  The compliance folks are very unhappy...
 :popcorn2:

"CLEMSON — A Daniel Island restaurant still has an item on its menu named for Tajh Boyd, despite Clemson’s compliance department insisting earlier this week the entree lose its relation to the star quarterback.

On Wednesday, a fan tweeted a photo of the menu at Daniel Island Grille, clearly displaying an item called “Tajh Boyd Chicken Quesadillas” priced at $8.99. The photo made its way from social media to a Sporting News blog post.

NCAA Bylaw 12.5.2.2 “Use of a Student-Athlete’s Name or Picture Without Knowledge or Permission”

If a student-athlete’s name or picture appears on commercial items (e.g., T-shirts, sweatshirts, serving trays, playing cards, posters, photographs) or is used to promote a commercial product sold by an individual or agency without the student-athlete’s knowledge or permission, the student-athlete (or the institution acting on behalf of the student-athlete) is required to take steps to stop such an activity in order to retain his or her eligibility for intercollegiate athletics."

I have to first ask, did the retaurants have permission to use the players name?

Naw, no way.
I just thought the title was fun.  This is another example of the expansive role of the NCAA, and the nightmare of every day as a compliance officer.  :lol2:

With all that is going on in today's world of the NCAA, I wouldn't be surprised to see them put up a For Sale sign on their front door. ;)

Do you think the Clowney wrap had a jarring affect on the eater? :dunno:

If I were the restaurant I would say screw the NCAA and screw USCe. Neither of those institutions have any jurisdiction over the restaurant, and there are plenty of people named Clowney. How arrogant the NCAA is.

I think the greater tragedy for a tough guy like Clowney is having his name associated with avocado. Couldn't they have tied to something like "Clowney's Slab o' Rare Beef Sandwich?"

  That's what I was thinking too.  Turkey Avocado Wrap?  The restaurant must be owned by a Clemson fan.

I think the article originated from Clemson, but Daniel Island is actually near Charleston.

The avocado industry must've hired some good marketers and/or lobbyists in the last few years.  There's a real avocado craze going at national restaurants.   I do not find them to add much to a sandwich or wrap, and I definitely don't need the extra calories/fat (even if it is a somewhat healthful fat).

I do occasionally enjoy some nice, freshly made guacomole though.
