Title: Great story on ESPN college magazine preview
Post by: hscoach on August 16, 2013, 06:52:21 PM
They told when AJ came in he was 6'4 175 and couldn't bench over 200 lbs and couldn't squat more than 225.  In practice one day he was in the huddle with a bunch of 3rd an 4 th
teamers going against the first team D.  He was frustrated because he felt he would not be able to display his talents with the group he was playing with.  After practice he went to CNS's office to let him know of his displeasure.  CS allowed him to rant and finally ask if he was finished?  AJ said he was.  CNS then explained that this was a test and he failed.  He knew he has talent but wanted him to go in there and lead and build he other players up.  Today they say AJ can bench over 300 ls and squat over 600 lbs and has added about 40+ lbs of muscle.  He as become the leader that was desired by CNS.
This is part of the process.

I hope I got this story correct and if someone else can add to/correct please feel free.

Pretty good HS. I have heard that story before. I think you hit the nail on the head. AJ is the unabashed leader of this team.

CNS told that story at Media Days a few weeks ago.

I remember thinking AJ was so tall and thin he was going to be injury prone like Brodie Croyle. He has worked hard to get to where he is at today.
