Title: Alabama & Notre Dame Battle for Texas QB Transfer Post by: Marshal Dillon on July 11, 2013, 09:47:21 PM Well, ND is in dire need of a QB, so they may have the inside track.
Quote Alabama and Notre Dame fought it out for the National Championship in January, but it might not be the last fight the teams have in 2013 after Texas released quarterback Connor Brewer from his scholarship. http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2013-07-11/connor-brewer-texas-alabama-notre-dame-transfer-quarterback Title: Re: Alabama & Notre Dame Battle for Texas QB Transfer Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on July 12, 2013, 10:04:18 AM This just makes no sense to me. From the outside looking in, it appears we have no room on our roster for another QB. I find it hard to believe we're persuing him.

We have some great talent coming along but I have to give in to CNS thoughts. I guess he (coach) feels if he is on our team he can't be against us with another team. RTR!

No doubt, Ricky, if Coach Saban wants him, then there's a good reason and I'm all for it. However, I'm inclined to believe that this is just hearsay and the article is overblowing our interest. Adding "Alabama" makes for a good headline in the college football world these days. Title: Re: Alabama & Notre Dame Battle for Texas QB Transfer Post by: Catch Prothro on July 12, 2013, 11:16:35 AM Alabama offered him out of H.S., so he has been fully evaluated by the staff. After AJ, Bama's QB situation is still a question mark. Alec Morris appears to be in the lead for backup this year, but next year is wide open. And while we have several quality QB recruits on campus, we don't know yet how they will develop, or how long that will take.

I understand that CNS believes in bringing in as much talent as he can and letting players compete for their spot. However, at some point even very talented and very confident players are going make the rational choice to opt for other places where they are more likely to see the field. At this point I think that kids think "If CNS picks me, he really knows talent and so I'll surely get to play". But that reputation may change if kids see that the year after Bama lands the nation's top QB prospect, they go out and offer two more QBs. Title: Re: Alabama & Notre Dame Battle for Texas QB Transfer Post by: pmull on July 13, 2013, 02:23:33 PM I think we will know more about our QB situation when we see how the back-up QB race goes in pre-season practice. IMO Blake Sims being the back-up is a reason for concern. I know he is a change of pace guy that brings a different look to the offense but that is not our offense. When Croyle graduated we knew Wilson was next, then GMAC and then AJ/Philip Simms (everyone though either was a good choice). Right now I have no clue who will be the back-up this year and the heir apparent to AJ.
It has crossed my mind that CNS is not happy with what he sees in some of our QB's. I really like the new kid from Oklahoma, Cornwell? But he will be a true freshman the year after AJ is gone so that is not good either. Too bad he isn't on campus right now. I wonder what he sees as the problem if this is true? I thought recruits Alec Morris & Cooper Bateman were solid picks, plus Morris has already been there a full year. ??? I don't know what CNS is thinking. He may be thrilled with the QB's we have on the roster. I do think we will know a lot more about the back-up before the VA Tech kick-off. IMO Blake Sims does not need to be the back-up. We need to have a guy getting ready to replace AJ next year that is getting the few mop up reps and the majority of the practice reps. I totally agree with this view. I think we may see more of Morris unless there is a problem. Sims seems more of a running QB, not a passer. :popcorn2: Title: Re: Alabama & Notre Dame Battle for Texas QB Transfer Post by: Jamos on July 13, 2013, 07:20:22 PM I don't know that CNS is chasing him, I'm thinking this is no more than media fodder.

Title: Re: Alabama & Notre Dame Battle for Texas QB Transfer Post by: cbbama99 on July 13, 2013, 09:50:20 PM Honestly I think we could probably be in the mix for nearly every top prospect in the country now. Doesn't mean we necessarily want them all (or need them), but with the success we have had, it only makes sense that we would be mentioned as a leading destination.
